Reluctant though one is to use a sponsor in a race title, it's the sole means of identifying this tremendous 3m Kempton Park contest (like the Eider, on 21st February).

There are 27 beasts among the entries and, once again, the five-day confirmations are eight days hence on Monday week.

Already bored of thread fines, this thread will instead contain exciting opportunities for forumites of a certain age to gain nominations for the much coveted - and increasingly keenly fought - title of "Talking Horses Coffin Dodger Of The Year."

Referring to this contest as "the Racing Post Chase" stamps your pension book with one nomination and calling it "the Yellow Pages" not only gets you a nomination, but also gives you a free entry (only one entry per forumite as per the terms and conditions) into a prize draw to win a second-hand (but original owner Walsworth claims he has looked after it moderately well these past ten years) zimmerframe.

Thought the Ladbrokes Trophy was at Newbury in November / December
That's the Coral Gold Cup (Hennessy to the Brandy-soaked coffin dodgers) - I don't think I've mentioned it (for at least an hour) but I put up the 5,566/1 Trifecta in it here back in the days before I decided enriching the lazy had become boring.

Cracking card at the Sunbury venue next Saturday - can't wait!

This is the sort of excitement I'm looking for - if you're not repeating your selection's name at least twice, do you even like horse racing?
I love this interpretation of it.

I was worried you might think it was a satanic ritual, Ian.

On a serious note, the horse must have a proper live chance.

Second in the race last year off a 4lb higher mark. He was giving lumps of weight away to an absolute blot on the handicap that day in Karate Dori too.

He's going to be 15lb better off with that rival if they both line up on Saturday.

I know who I'd have as a shorter price.

The November race (the Hennessy) gets the 'Cup' tag and has started changing sponsors as often as women change their knickers (am I allowed to say that without causing offence? I'm praising them for their good hygiene practices) while the Feb race, which has less of a history as far as I know, gets the 'Trophy' tag. It was pretty much a nothing race until the RP started sponsoring it and offered very decent prize money in the late '80s, if memory serves.

Taken out today.

Well, that project went well.

No conkers lost, anyway.
