I have absolutely no idea if there will be enough interest or whether it will bomb completely and be abandoned before it starts but entries are invited for a new knock out tipping competition based on the TV program The Chase for which Ray H of FF and swedish chef of TH have both put up a cash prize of £20, other prizes are acceptable
Ideally I am looking for 32 players from here and FF, and as notified on the “New Competition” thread the first 32 players to register on this thread “The Chase” or the equivalent one on FF also called “The Chase” would be guaranteed a place in the competition proper. However further entries are invited as the game is flexible enough to allow other schedules, and everyone who enters can still play even if not part of any competition. If we only have 16 players we could still run it. Assuming we have enough players the draw for Round One will be made and posted on Friday evening in readiness for Sunday.
The four week knockout competition starts next Sunday 8th September, each stage of the competition runs for a week and the competition finishes on Saturday October 5th. Players who are knocked out in Round One of the competition proper will play in a subsidiary competition thereafter so everyone is guaranteed to play for a minimum of two weeks.
The finalists will contest a one day final with adapted rules based on Arc day at Longchamp on Sunday October 6th.
Below the rules is a demonstration of how it works, it’s much, much more simple than it sounds, basically all you need do is pick just one horse a day and watch “your table.” You don’t even have to post every day but it does make beating your opponent harder.
Rules
1.The game is played on an area known as “the table” which has EIGHT rows. There are two players on each table, one Runner and one Chaser, The Runner starts play on Row 4 whilst The Chaser starts play behind the top of the table.
2.Each game lasts for a maximum of seven days, day one being played on a Sunday through to day seven on a Saturday. The Runner and The Chaser select one horse each day from any race meeting in the UK or Ireland on any race up to and including 6PM. If The Runner’s selection wins The Runner moves one place down the table whilst if The Chaser’s selection wins The Chaser moves TWO places down the table. Progress down the table will be by highlighted by the row(s) on the table turning green.
3.The aim of the game is for The Runner to reach “Home” by selecting four winners before being caught by The Chaser. However if The Chaser lands on the same row as The Runner (or beyond), The Chaser is deemed the winner, The Chaser is also deemed the winner if both Runner and Chaser land on “Home”on the same day. In the event of a stalemate after seven days i.e The Runner has neither reached home or been caught by The Chaser, the winner is determined by a) the most winners during that week or if there is still no winner The Runner is deemed the winner.
4.No reserve selections are permitted but if the selection is a non runner the selection will be replaced by the horse in that race with the lowest race card number unless it coincides with the opponent’s selection in which case it will be replaced with the next lowest race card number.
5.The Runner and The Chaser are not permitted to select the same horse and in the event this occurs the first player to select that horse has ownership .The other player’s selection, if not changed by the player, will be replaced by the horse in that race with the lowest race card number which is not the selection of the other player. A link to the competition thread on the other forum will be provided with the draw to enable players to see if their opponent has made a selection, there will be no need to register or log in on the other forum to see their thread.( I think!)
6.Selections must be made by 1.30PM each day, no exceptions. In the event a player fails to post a selection by 1.30PM, their opponent is still entitled to play and move down the table if their selection wins.
7.No selections are permitted before 8PM for the following day. This is to give me a two hour window (no selections in races after 6PM remember!) to post the updated tables, make the draws and do any other admin etc. It will also mean it is easier for me to find everyone’s selection for the following day knowing I don’t have to look further back than the last updated tables.
Rules may be amended or introduced during the competition to ensure fair play, encompass unforeseen circumstances, or determine a final winner, my decision is final.
Tables will be updated as soon as possible each evening.
Some examples
On the first table The Chaser (Slim Chance) has selected one winner and moves two places down the table and the row changes to green whilst The Runner (Del Boy) has also selected one winner to move one place down the table, the row changes to green.
On the second table The Chaser (DG) has not picked a winner and remains behind the table whilst The Runner (TrudiJ) has picked three winners and is now needs one more winner to reach home although she can still be caught by The Chaser if he selects four winners on the last four days and she selects four losers or even if she has a winner on day seven.
On table three The Chaser (jinnyj) is flagged up in red as the winner as she has selected four winners and caught The Runner (edgt)who had three winners but is still one place from home.
On table four The Chaser (Merlin) has selected three winners but The Runner (BTB) is flagged up in red as the winner as he has selected four winners and reached home safely.
On table five both The Chaser (Swedish Chef) and The Runner (Maruco) have selected three winners, The Runner reaches home if selecting one more winner and wins if the Chaser selects a loser, but if The Chaser selects a winner as well that day the Chaser wins. If that is how the table looked after day seven on the Saturday, both players have three winners so The Runner wins.
On table six if that is how the table looked after day seven, The Chaser (Archie) would be the winner as he has two wins as opposed to The Runner (grey) who has one winner.
