The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Typical Glaswegian slag quipped "Were you the fuckin janitor" and walked off the floor.

Can't say I miss the attitutude of young people back home.

:)

Normally I'd say the same but two things have happened to me in the last few years to change my mind.

About 5 years ago I was on one of my solo holidays and a seriously attractive young woman came and sat next to me at the hotel bar. She was part of a hen party and was just at the bar to order a drink for her and a pal. Out of the blue she started talking to me, calling me "Hey Scottish" once she heard my accent and, to my surprise, she seemed happy to sit there and chat for a good 15-20 minutes. That was it but it fair made my day!

The second was just last year. Mrs O had decided an early night [for her] was in order but I reckoned 11pm is no time to be kipping off when you're on holiday so I went for a wee dauner along the promenade and ended up in a bar that was playing my kind of music (Sinatra, etc). I overheard a couple near me chatting, the not unattractive woman nearer me, clocked the Scottish accent and decided to make conversation with them. While I sipped my Guinness, it was clear they were tanking some serious stuff but the pleasant conversation continued. After about half an hour it was obvious the alcohol was affecting both of them and I was trying to figure out if the intent look in her eyes was concentration on remaining lucid or on me. I was quite taken aback when she leant over towards me and said quietly in my ear, "As soon as he goes to the toilet you and I are on the floor!" Whether she meant eventually horizontal dancing I'll never know because as soon as he came out of the toilet - we were dancing vertically - he told her to get her stuff, they were leaving because he'd had enough to drink.

I was mightily relieved, I have to say!

One of your “solo holidays”, desert, you naughty boy :D. Couldn’t get away with that in my house.

:lol:Just one point from that..Sinatra??...Did you miss out on the 60s and 70s music?;)

I think DO is a bit of a dark horse..he leaks little bits out every now and then suggesting so;) That might not be a good phrase reading it back;)

I certainly did not miss out on all the brilliant 60s/70s stuff but, come on, Francis Albert is just the daddy (and is much easier to get away with at karaoke )

Back late last night from 9-days in Spain that can only be described as "arduous". My post-Festival thoughts:

HORSES

The Good
Constitution Hill. Still only a 6yo, and I'd love to see him have one more season over hurdles, and set a new bar for 2m hurdlers. Suspect he would have set one already, if Nico had ever let him come out of second-gear.
Honeysuckle. A great mare, and a tremendous way for her to finish her racing career.
Impaire Et Passe. Shades of Faugheen, and lived-up to all the Preview Night hype. A certain star of the future.
Galopin Des Champs. Not much more to say other than it was an imperious performance that delivered on all expectations.

The Bad
Shishkin. No idea what to make of this yoke now. Maybe he doesn't really act at Cheltenham (just prevailed in Supreme and Arkle fell apart).
Mighty Potter. Not sure Davy gave this one a particularly good ride.

The Ugly
Envoi Allen and Sire Du Berlais? No.....just no.

PUNTING

The Good
Confidence rewarded with Corach Rambler.
Rolling in behind the Impaire Et Passe hype, instead of dismissing it.
Covering my Galvin bet with Delta Work when ground started to look a bit moody on Wednesday.
Winner and second each-way in the Grand Annual, plus the forecast.
Clear profit across all the handicaps, thanks to new approach to betting in them.

The Bad
Handsome ante-post prices on Il Etait Temps, Galvin, Gerri Colombe and Shishkin all beaten.
Gaillard Du Mesnil, Constitution Hill and Galopin Des Champs all shouldering ante-post multiples with Gerri Colombe, Mighty Potter and Luccia.

The Ugly
Overall, no complaints. Had a good week.

I was, PJ - at a pal's house in Roda, Murcia.

We golfed in the mornings and watched the races each day at Campbell's Irish Bar in the village.

Good man, what a way to take it in

I was in Vietnam for 5 weeks pre the festival and back the few days before it started

I'm going to do something similar in future as the good weather led me to my best ever festival and plenty of time to ignore the twitter experts and festival reviews
