The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

You've all discounted the fact that the spirit of Tanlic will be whispering sweet nothings into Contstutions ear all the way round this year, things like "for f**ks sake jump it" , " I told them all youre the best" , "why the f**k didnt you that last year" followed by "stick that in your pipe and smoke it Davies!".

I dearly hope you’re wrong, Ian. Constitution Hill remains the best I’ve ever seen. Whether he can still reach those heights again I doubt, but he can still see this lot off. He can no longer flick through the tops of the hurdles as the new ones are less forgiving, so he has to jump them which blunts his superiority.

But for my deeply cynical bet, I might hope I was wrong too - the horse did me proud the year he did win the Champion Hurdle.

But, win or lose, he's likely to be shocking value given what's happened since.

I happen to think Anzadam is a potentially very decent hurdler, actually, and on the day I might prefer him The New Lion, who's never raced outside novice company and who they're trying to turn into a 2m hurdler.

I'm quite surprised to see CH as short as he is. I love him to bits, but those prices (9/4) are mad!

I also wouldn't be backing TNL at the odds either.

Anzadam would be the pick for me, as I think he represents the most value in the current betting.

I thought Mick Fitz was pretty gushing - even for him - when he was talking about CH the other week.

I was very tempted to back it for the big one. Still swithering. If it is indeed back anywhere near its best it will make 9/4 look like an early Christmas present.

An early Christmas present is something like “the totally discounted Kauto Star” in the 2011 Betfair, dotting up at 8/1. Constitution Hill looks finished, in a very similar way to how KS looked finished after his previous run at the Punchestown Festival. But you’d surely want better than 9/4.

I think Fitzy is always going to gush about the horse. I'm sure his work is as good as before but I doubt I will ever watch him run again simply as I don't want to watch to see if he does the same again. He will have been schooled and schooled and schooled again but I think he's been lucky the last twice he's fallen as it could have been worse.

I'm not sure either.

A moderate jockey (but brilliant when winning races for me!) whose lilt made him attractive to the TV people hoping his 'charm of the Irish' would bring in more female viewers (to give their guide dogs a wee break), and a gift of the gab that was ideal for filling time.

But, he's close to the likes of Hendo and the Noel Fehily syndicates and TV viewers who don't know any better will note his tips and if they happen to win it allows him to perpetuate his TV presence.

But I do listen when he talks about the Hendo stable or if he tips one ridden by one of his proteges (but I don't usually back them).

He's much more likely to tell the truth about something from the Hendo yard than Hendo is.

I actually like the guy - he rode a horse for me once and finished second on her at Newton Abbot. He gushed then - I think he's just a very gushy person. But he was very complimentary about her so obviously got brownie points.

Im sure also. In the early days of my punting i watched the morning line. Jinny says gushing and thats the right word he was gushing about a Juvenile hurdler called Saintsare saying he didnt feel like a 4yo he felt like a much older horse, he worked the house down when he'd ridden him and he thought he'd go on to win the triumph hurdle. He was even money to win a crappy prep and he'd talked me into it had the biggest bet id had at the time on it and it ran like a sack.

Probably my first memory of being sold an absolute dud but an important early lesson all the same.

I only ever met Fitzgerald the once - it was at Bath races a few years ago.

In trademark me fashion, I told him the most important aspect of his Grand National win on Rough Quest was that, as "Hyperion" at The Independent, I'd napped it and informed the no-doubt bemused Islington chattering classes readership that, and, I quote: "It was a tub-thumping moral certainty and I simply couldn't have it beat."

He just laughed and replied: "Glad to have helped."

Affable bloke, no side to him, liked him.

But anyone betting a 9/4 poke that's had a wind operation, fallen twice and showed he's completely gone at the game, based on his manic pro-Seven Barrows propaganda, wants carting off to Okehampton Funny Farm (old line from The Goodies) because an early Christmas present those odds, win or lose. are most definitely NOT.

I like Mick Fitz.
Especially when I listened when he said Sprinter Sacre would be a much better chaser than hurdler so I took 9/1 for the arkle before he had jumped a fence.
I like Fitzy too but nearly every horse will be better over fences according to everyone!

I can imagine though everyone with 9/1 was feeling smug after the way he swatted Peddlers Cross.

I don't have a problem. I just click on picture item and drag or open a file. How are you doing it?
Oh I have just seen yours is an attachment? I just insert mind in direct and then shrink it down if too big. Pretty easy?
