The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

It would be hilarious if Con Hill got balloted out of Southwell.

Dont know much about Willie Mullins's flat horses, who would he send? Ethical Diamond / Absurde?
1m4f (1m4f15y) Join The Midnite Movement Novice Stakes (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (4yo+)

This is the relevant race at Southwell on February 20th. From the BHA website: " A Novice Flat race is a Flat race for horses which have not won more than two flat races and have not won a flat race which is classified as Class 1 or more than one flat race which is classified as Class 2 in Schedule F(2) to the Rules of Racing.

Absurde looks to be ineligible to run having won the Class 1 Listed Chester Stakes in 2024, but he's entered for Sunday's Up The Yard Challenge race at Punchestown on the Flat over two miles for a first prize of 59 Euros. Ethical Diamond is not qualified to run at Southwell having won at Royal Ascot and then the Ebor.

Also entered by Willie Mullins in the race at Punchestown on Sunday are Jump Allen, Sysko, Daddy Long Legs, Hens Tooth, and Fancy Girl. Assuming that all of these are ready to race then maybe one will be sent over to Southwell at the end of next week.

Willie Mullins: "I'm always intrigued how to pronounce Southwell, so we'll see them over there and find out!"

Bill Arrowsmith, my Dad's bookmaker friend who I worked with on course in the 1980s, pronounced it "South Well," as, I believe, does Hayley Turner, who I'm told actually comes from Southwell.

So I decided "Suthell" must be a media affectation which was inaccurate.

But someone here (reet?) I think said the locals call it "Suthell" and I'd got it wrong.

We need an answer to this as it could affect the DJ, the speed dating and Nicky Henderson's mood after about six trainers, all needled by the attempt to create and gift a 40 large race to his former Champion Hurdler, all rock up with something to push Constitution Hill out of the frame.

But he won't retire - we'll be told he hated the Tapeta, so there will be failed attempts at Polytrack and the Turf on the Flat to come post Rolleston venue - what a summer it's going to be!

What about this corker from Reddit:

"It's South-Well for the teenagers who are waiting for the bus on King Street, because mum is three bottles into wine o'clock and can't pick them up in her Range Rover, so instead they crowd around the bus shelter, blocking the commoners from getting on the 44, who just wanna go to Sneinton and Netherfield and don't give a f%*& about Suth-ell."

Is Constitutional Hill guaranteed a run at Southwell ? As he has no recent form on the flat he must be lowly rated and with a safety factor around 14 ish there must be a chance that he would be balloted out !!

From racing post today

Could Constitution Hill be balloted out of his own race?

That's the question a lot of people are asking this morning as the entry list for Friday's 1m4f novice continues to swell.

The answer is not exactly set in stone, but there is reason for optimism that the evening's star performer will be ensured a place in the line up.

The elimination process, as per the BHA rules, protects certain horses in order of priority, with first preference going to horses who have completed no more than two Flat races and been placed in the first four at least one of those starts.

While Constitution Hill doesn't fall in that bracket, he will be eligible for the next protection class as a horse who has not run in a Flat race before.

He will have priority over every other horse with at least one Flat race to their name (barring those mentioned above).

That should give him a solid chance of securing his spot.

Nardaran Is an interesting one for me.
Last time he ran well to the last after a layoff and wnkd and eased.
I thought the imperial cup could be on the agenda.
