Well, don't just sit there whinging - do something about it! You're a young, vibrant, dazzling urbanite, aren't you? So act like one! (I would remind you that the energies of the forum have been somewhat diluted by some poxy NH meeting run somewhere in the south-west, though.)
I`ve tried in the past, i`ve opened threads on film and music and got bugger all interest. I`m not criticising the members, if people aren`t interested in films fair enough and as for music well CP was right over on FinalFurlong:

"Well, taste seems a little better over here than it is at Talking Horses (where most members seem fans of derivative indie nonsense.)"

I'm not sure that dissing people's choice in music will get them to open up to much more discussion, somehow. If you pigeonhole people, they're likely to think 'oh, bugger it, why should I bother'. As for films, there have been quite a few discussions but maybe people don't go to the cinema as much as they used to? I wait for them to hit cable, others wait for the DVDs. Would that explain, perhaps, why there aren't too many participants in the film reviews?

Maybe people can't be @rsed to respond to people who are abusive and foul-mouthed?
Nice. Was that really necessary? If people post things that i see as plainly wrong i say so. Is saying shite really abusive? Only to sad old gits like you.

No weekends here but I have turned them down. The pay is around 6 grand less than I am currently on so it is a no brainer.
And they expected him to pay for his own mortarboard and gown - cheeky sods

Did you not have to pay for your own wig and gown, m'lud? :brows: Jockeys have to pay for their boots, protector, helmet, whip, breeches, and saddle... sounds like he got off fairly easily!

Firstly, I was generalising rather than personalising as you're one of a number.

If you genuinely read my posts you'll see I can f*ck and sh*te with the best/worst of them but it would be extremely rare for me to direct such language at a forumite. A jockey, trainer, etc., maybe, but not a forumite. You dish out insults in much the same way as Diver dishes out champagne.

See, i think there is a difference between insulting a forumite and just making a comment on a post they`ve made:

This was in my opinion the weakest Gold Cup field I have ever seen with Exotic an excellent Handicapper and the others not Gold cup class.

I think this is the sort of shite Bobbyjo was expecting earlier in the thread. [/b][/quote]

I don`t see this as a direct insult. Apologies if that how it comes across.

I was taking a pay cut of around 3.5 grand because of the reduction in management responsibility. However, I was going through the threshold in September (worth 2.5 K) and wouldn't be getting that either. Their payscale equates pretty accurately with the state sector.

But you do often direct abusive language at others.

The comment you cite would offend me had I posted it; I can't speak for harry. I stopped posting on a lot of racing topics largely on account of that kind of stuff and I'm big-headed enough to believe the forum is a poorer place without my opinions (which would be entirely the oposite of harry's, I have to say, but I'd never dismiss his opinion as "shite").

I'd much rather see constructive counter-argument but I'm sure God forgives you.

The counter-argument i.e. my thoughts on the Gold Cup are there in the same thread.

Horrendous today - bitterly cold for the South West, snow, hail, rain, sun - we've just got over one bout of viral pneumonia with the dairy calves about four weeks ago when the weather was so variable then and it will kick off again at this rate! Rapid temperature change is a killer.

The mares will all be on go slow too - am relieved that the four that are away have all been covered, just keeping everything crossed at least some of them are i/f !!

I didn't even get the chance to turn them down as I didn't get offered the job. Never mind, plenty of time left this year to find somewhere new.

We had a huge rainstorm here on Sat night following hail, which followed several days of blazing sunshine - shirtsleeves weather. Yesterday we had a violent hailstorm. this morning it was sunny if windy, and now the landscape is covered in snow as far as I can see.......

Feel sorry for all the baby creatures who have popped forth a but previous, like

PDJ, several of my friends in teaching moved to the private sector in middle age, less for the money, more so they could TEACH rather than just try to keep order. None of them ever regretted it for a moment. But why not wait till after you get your next threshold rise?

Had all sorts of weather here today....snow, hail, wind and it's getting colder!

I am not going to complain as last Saturday & end of last week I was almost in shirt sleeves and The Cheltenham Festival was so much nicer with the weather bright and the ground safe.

Mother Nature can throw what she likes at us now, as long as it is only for a couple of days as I plan to go to Newbury races at the end of the week! :D

Fair chance they had a specific candiate in mind all along, then, Paul. I've been there (on both sides of the panel).

I once applied for an unpromoted post in a private school. At the time I was already an experienced HOD. One of my staff, a hard worker and valued colleague but with limitations, also applied and I even wrote her reference.

She was interviewed and I wasn't.

When I enquired, I was told she "better fitted the person specification". I suppose the fact they'd have had to pay her about £10k less than they were paying me might have been a factor, as maybe was the fact that her kids attended the school. She didn't get the job. A newly qualified teacher got it.

Euro, you must have a very bad memory if you think the above quote came from CPGagie :D
