The Will Place Thread

If you want to bet bad each way, there are firms offering 10 places each way on this week's PGA Tour event. Aaron Rai at 25/1 e/w is a disgusting bet that should get you arrested.

I'd rather back Sons And Lovers in the 6.58.

A lot of essays on here, but I'm the first person to put up an actual bet where the place terms are wrong and, in theory, monster value.

Well I'd still liked to have seen how this panned out. I can see scenarios where it might have given a positive return, especially given the quality of thoughts around individual runners that are regularly seen on the forum.

So, the point we're at could be stated as...

Thanks to those against it for stating their thoughts so eloquently. We wanted to hear those, yeah that was asked for. You definitely have valid points, but equally there are other ways of looking at it. Clearly, you don't have to read, and you can steer clear from now on.

But an alternative way of saying it (slightly more in keeping with the ways that some people seem to want to respond to others, however that's 'just their way') is...

Thanks for your eloquent and insightful feedback and thoughts. Now feel free to f%*& off, you don't need to have any further interaction with this thread.
Cracking thread, I'm not taking sides (I value the thoughts of everyone on the thread) but Chaumi is the leader in the Clubhouse on the laughometer with his pay off line at the end. 😂👍

Careful each-way punters are some of the worst punters I know. Yes, in theory you have an edge, but you end up betting in either the hardest races of the day or races where your selection isn't trying. I've a friend who runs a tipping service and only puts up careful each-way selections. I text him last night to remind him that I think he's an idiot.

I'm not being smart replying on this thread, I'm genuinely parting my experience and knowledge of making money betting. 'Will place' is a waste of time and energy. Focus on backing winners and you'll be an extraordinary better punter.
Unless I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, Slimbo, what I think you're saying is that we all "should just back winners?'

If you thought your horses would WIN, but have taken EW in case they don’t, then recast your account(s) to see how it would look if you’d bet 2 points win instead of 1 point ew.

On the other hand, if you thought your horses would PLACE, but have taken EW in case they WIN, then recast your account(s) to see how it would look if you’d bet 2 points place via Tote instead of 1 point ew.

The answers might surprise you.

At time of writing the earlier on 12/1 ew 3 places (3.4 to make the three), 11/1 4 places (3.2 to make the 4) Thapa Vc is, in the machine: 16 for the win, 4.6 for a top 3 finish and 3.15 for a top 4 finish.

This isn't a critique of the selection btw - more an observation about the relative "value" between the win and place odds with the books and what is available on the exchange.

Enemy is 28/1 three places (that's 6.6 for a top 3 finish) and 22/1 four places (that's 5.4 for a top 4 finish) - at the moment you can get 38 the win and 8 for a top 3 finish and 4.6 (illiquid market at the moment) for a top 4 finish.

Just a random example and it's only buttons on the machine at the moment, but I really don't think each-way with the books, even extended places, is always all it's cracked up to be.

It can be a long time between drinks win only on the machine, but it's isn't half worth the wait when you cop and the place markets on the machine often offer more value too.

I dont know but had Dingo logged on since ? Shame if we've lost him again cracking punter amd good contributor to the forums when he's around hopefully he'll be back at some point but knowing Chris he usually sticks to his guns for quite a while when packing something in.
