The Will Win Thread

All of that is true, Danny, and I wasn't for one second being critical of anyone on this thread.

It's just that I'm at that comfortable stage of life where the biggest issue I have when I back a loser is my neighbours wondering if that eccentric older bloke in the apartment block has Tourettes because he just randomly shouted: "c***!" at about 150 decibels yet was perfectly calm and polite next time they saw him.

The rent (what rent? paid off the mortgage years ago), food and meeting the monthly outgoings are not at risk.

Different ballgame for the younger punter living on his wits, whether he chose that path willingly or not.

Dress it however you like,it's, plain to see that the claimer rode the hare;and the stable jock. the winner (as suggested by the comments in the prelims),and whilst no one is called complicit,the weight of money for the fav leaves the whiff of sharp practice as its aftermath.

We've all been on the wrong end of it and knowing some here are well connected I'm sure some have been on the 'right' end of it too.
But in this case, I don't understand why a trainer as successful as AOB would need to be involved in this kind of thing.
 
While it is virtually impossible to make the running in a 20 runner handicap on just your 5th start maybe just maybe he was not the hare maybe Aidan told the kid "look you are on the best horse we think he has a good few pound in hand go out and make the running rather than have a hard luck story about not getting a run.

Don't forget he came from stall 16 and I know the winner came from stall 22 but Wayne could take his time, nurse the horse thru the field.

All part of life’s rich tapestry. You chance your arm trying to second guess these guys, but you’d have to say the “wrong one” wins far too often for it to be a coincidence.
 
Totally agree Jon they are cute whores who know the time of day but having watched the race again I would say they expected that horse to win or come very very close but hey ho they don't give a flying fook now which horse won it as long as the stable won it.
 
People can see different things, but at no stage until the final furlong did I not want to be on Saratoga. The idea that a stable famous for botching pacemaking duties in Group 1 races would attempt to do so in a 20-runner handicap is a reach, even for me.

If you’re buying into the theory that Jack Cleary set up the race for Wayne Lordan, then you’d need to explain why one had a BSP of 4.1 and the other 8.26. They tried to switch jockeys because Lordan could do the weight, and they obviously suspected he was the better horse. It didn’t work out, but that doesn’t mean you resort to the man in the betting shop throwing his bookie’s pen at the SIS screen, shouting ‘dirty bastards’. They aren’t that clever by half.
 
I’d add as well that no other horse even remotely looked like winning that race bar the Aidan O’Brien pair. If Saratoga had been good enough to see it out, people would be decrying what a job it was and ‘touch landed’, which is always the problem with results-based storytelling.
 
Wise words, slim. The world is awash with conspiracy theories, most of which are pie in the sky. Nonetheless the “wrong one” does win an awful lot.

Both horses are in the sales. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bought to race in Australia.

That said, I'd love to back Saratoga in a Chester Cup!

Perhaps in times long gone by he might have jumped a hurdle. But he’s going for a Group 3 next and is by Wootton Bassett out of a Galileo mare. You wouldn’t get much change out of £750k to attempt to send him hurdling. I’d imagine they’ve already had offers from Australia.

Oh, and Galileos can’t f$%^ing jump.
 
Well done Reet didnt have a nicker on it myself but my mate at work has so he's a happy chappy.
