My first topic on This and That is about people who run forums. I'm sure that this forum is properly moderated, as all good forums are :) But some people who take on the running of a forum and then find that they've no time to moderate it or give it 100% commitment, well they would surely need some help from forumites who read every word and can give constructive criticism, yes? Er, no. It seems that you will just get banned and be called childish because the receiver of said constructive criticism can't be arsed to check on what you are pointing out to them and just sees you as a pain.

It would really be great if everyone got along with each other on forums and there was no need for moderation, but that will never happen. So I would say to anyone wanting to take on the responsibility of running a forum that they should realise that it will eat into their spare time a fair bit and if that does not suit then they really shouldn't even think about it, or if they go ahead but then find that they can't cope then they should pass it on to someone who can.

This bit made me laugh:

The forum relies wholly on the goodwill of its members and, despite best efforts of a very few, I think we retain that goodwill. I hope/think we are fair regarding moderation and, I suspect, I am a bit TOO fair on occasions, there is always a tricky judgement on where the line between spiky debate and unacceptable, personalised attacks lies. As I've said before, when it gets overtly personal or when things veer towards bullying behaviour is when I feel we should be stepping in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet the same guy does nothing when you email him about personal abuse. Poor!

The sad part about forums that aren't moderated properly is that good people like myself can be dragged down to the level of the abusers. I can't edit or warn them about their vile outbursts so I end up looking as bad as them :(

Certain posts on another forum that have not been removed just show how badly managed it is. Whoever is responsible for it should hang their head in shame.

Still, these places should never be taken too seriously

Goodnight and thank you for your time, even though you may feel it wasted

Go for a run, you'll soon warm up.
I thought you were a tad unlucky to get the boot, any sort of personality clash with the man who holds the hammer is only going to end one way in the end.

I'm not bothered mate, he's clearly not up to the job and I'd never try to join again unless someone who could run it properly - like Craig did - takes over the reins. I'm keeping in touch with Moe and hope we can all meet up at Exeter in the not too distant future. Cheers

Why do so many people say 'it's' when it should be 'its' ?

Even Ian Davies in the other place is at it and he used to be a journo!

So much for the person that said he was much more erudite than Mr. Pilsen ;)

:D

Copy of this crime:

'Has anyone ever noticed racing journalism has a language and etiquette that is all it's own?'

**** Poor :p

Or maybe not... Kellie Maloney will get loads of sympathy votes. Mind you, she's quite a looker :<3:

George Gilbey as low as 3/1? Mind you, he's used to sitting on a sofa all day doing nothing by what we know of him but no bet for me. I'll stick with the two mentioned and 100 point bank. White Dee is too big at 7/1 and I'll have 30 points on her and 70 points on Kellie at 5/2.
