I was 4 or 5 at the time. I remember I was translating Homer at the time (into Old English) and my governess mentioned something about it.
I don't believe you.

Because The Simpsons wasn't on in 1963.

Everyone is supposed to be able to remember...what they were doing when they heard the news

Presumably, most people were listening to the news, when they heard the news.

My father had died on October 1st, and my Mother and I were on board the Windsor Castle, returning to Africa, wondering what to do with our lives. We've continued to do so ever since...

K - sounds like the first line in a Merchant/Ivory screenplay. Have you ever thought of writing your story?

Fortunately - no. At some point the ship must've sailed into the Tropic of Cock-ups, 'cos I think if we'd known how many things would go wrong from the moment of landfall, not just for a little while, but year after year in matters great and small, we'd have thrown ourselves artistically from the upper deck into the briny.

Next time round, I'm coming back as a gorgeous, blonde, trophy wife whose gega-rich husband drops dead five minutes after the honeymoon.
