Tournament Texas Holdem

Anyone own a copy of this? I remember Brian recommending Turbo Texas Holdem but this is the tournament version. It has a 2002 WSOP format. I had it on its hardest level and won the whole thing with black pocket 9's. I'd find it hard to get past the first couple of hours of any decent MTT online. Is the game a waste of time?

Coincidentally, some of my workmates invited me to an 'evening' of Texas Holdem just yesterday. I was going to ask advice about the game, rules, tips, etc.

I've printed off the rules for the game and want to download it but not to play immediately. It looks like the download facility wants me to download and go straight into the game but I want to study the rules for a while.

How do I download it without going straight into a game?

The game is nonsense Gearoid. It is not realistic (not saying you couldn't win a tourney by the way ).

It gives you false hope.

Over the last few months I have definitely gotten better but I'm still basically crap. I am now a very tight pre-flop player but that means nothing eventually as you end up short-stacked and out of the tourney.

I have been noticing how other players play though. MTT tourneys attract every kind of player and I cannot imagine ever winning one, due to the craziness of it all at the start.

There is a very big difference playing in real life (a bricks and mortar game is the current expression) to playing online.

Incidentally, if anyone fancies playing a bricks and mortar tournament with a decent prize and which will help charity then go to the Hold'em 100 site:
http://www.holdem100.com/

They may be full up, but if anyone's coming along I'll see you there.

Would be interesting to arrange a game one day.
I use bet365 mostly and I think you should be able to do it if you arrange a table/time to meet on - go in as a observer and wait until the game in progress is completed then all sign in together, that should work.

It was talked about on here about 6 months ago but nothing happened. Well, things happened, but not poker related.

The online sites should cater for groups wanting to have private games. I don't know of any that do.

Ladbrokes do? I mean a private game so that no one else (i.e. people who are not invited so to speak) can play. Is it possible to "book a table" on Ladbrokes poker and only those with, say, a password could play at that table?

OK, I'm now familiar with the basic rules.

What I'm not 100% sure about is the order (top down) of the best hands.

Am I right in thinking a Flush from the Ace down is the best hand you can get (apart from 5 aces)?

I don't know whether an 'ordinary' flush beats four of a kind, etc.

I think the order is

High card
Pair
2 pair
3 of a kind
straight
flush
full house
4 of a kind
straight flush

But I may be wrong.....

A royal flush is the top straight flush: A-K-Q-J-10 suited.

And if ever you get it, pray that there is a straight flush out against you!

I'd suggest Betfair of Ladbrokes for a private game. Ladbrokes have six seater games so they may be better. What sort os stakes is everyone prepared to pay?
