Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has pledged more than £5million to help victims of the tsunami.

Schumacher admitted his new-year celebrations had been muted following news of the tsunami, which killed more than 150,000 people.

He told his personal website, www.michael-schumacher.de: "Our New Year's Eve celebrations were quiet this year because of the disaster in Asia which absorbed our attention.

Excellent donations from JP and Coolmore . I have to say NTL have actually been very generous . They're going to match any donation made by an asssociate. What you donate goes through payroll and comes off your months wage but they are then going to match that amount which has set off a bit of office frenzy . Friends and family are making donations via the associate so NTL might have more of a bill than they bargained for :P

but thats peanuts to Schuie...how much does he earn a yr?? what is 5 million to him, he earns somethin like 17 million just from ferrari, no including any other sponsorship.

Still, a good gesture.

I can't belittle £5 million I am afraid, Will. Will you be giving up a third of your wages for a year?

Although Will has a point (it's easy to give when you've got plenty and a £5 donation might be more of a sacrifice to a poor person), £5m is £5m in anybody's money and is a huge amount.

When the Band Aid 20 record came out, the Scottish businessman Tom Hunter (at least I think it was was he) pledged to match pound for pound the amount raised by the record. That was another enormously generous gesture.

I live around 15 kilometres from his home town and i must say that that i have never heard a bad word about him.A sure sign that he is an ok kind of guy.

The fact that he earns a lot of money should not detract from his generosity.

I think Schumacher has donated a good amount of money and even being easy for him being so rich I think it is a great gesture.

Also think the money we are donating is very important but one thing the people is not saying is the help Japan and USA army are providing, because in Europe we tend to insult and have a laugh on them but in this kind of situations they are absolutely the key with the Helicopters and their soldiers.

This Tsunami is the world greatest catastrophe since the China earthquake in 75 or 76 and people needs the help we are providing.

will

u critiscise shumarker

according to some paper reports £5 million is more than the oil rich states of kuwaitand saudi arabia have so far donated

and in fact the oil poor countries in ireland and portugal have donated more than saudi and kuwait

seen in that context i think shumarker has made a wonderful effort and should be applauded rather than critiscised

Some of the people bidding for the Coolmore nominations seem to have missed the point, especially in the US. The idea should be to pay above the going rate for the service, not under.

I would imagine that the bidders, especially on stallions like Sadlers Wells, Giant's Causeway and Fusaichi Pegasus, will be pretty p'd off if they don't get a foal - good cause or not. Unless of course they were quite happy to pay 200,000 euros to charity in any case.

And before anyone starts, that is not a gripe about coolmore, the bidders or anyone else. It is merely an observation.

Pretty sure I read that in the paper, wouldnt say 100% certain but will have a look again. Is that what put you off making a bid for Sadler's Wells Mel!? ;)

 Some Chance.

When I was doing the tour of the National Stud (a few years ago now), our guide told us that an attraction of the stud was to charge on a no foal no fee basis, whereas Coolmore don't do that. With Sadlers Wells (he specifically mentioned) you got your shot (so to speak) and moved on.

Of course, he could have been bullshitting.

The spiel at the top states that it is a no guarantee covering, with a "right to return" in 2006. I would assume that this means you need to pay in 2006, but are guaranteed a ride.

Oh, and the use of the 2005 Live Foal Fee figure suggests that there is a no foal no fee cover normally.
