Angel Of the Bay, as predicted, showed much interest in the rear - end of other horses in yesterday’s race. It was difficult to establish whether he took to turf or not but he didn’t look to be struggling on the surface. A strange thing to say about a horse that finished second last but his action looked ok and the only comment I can make is that his jockey didn’t just allow him to amble home but gave the horse a good blow. Next time out he will strip fitter and, who knows? Maybe a handicap will beckon.
My NH selection, Shirocco’s Dream was a major duff, I’m afraid, but the interesting feature of the race was the winner, Get Bazoutofhere, who was winning for the first time in his career and on good ground after, in two previous races, being declared a Nr because of the ground which was described as ‘Good’. So, he’s out yesterday on good ground and wins. Go figure. Needless to say, not a peep from the stewards.
Jack Shannon, as I’ve said before, is fast developing into my Venetia Williams of the flat. His Indian Creak, a course specialist, back to a wining mark, runs stone last. Yup, that’s about right. 'Creak''s the word.
Yes, Beej, Marbuzet ran a lovely race and gets beaten by one that hadn’t won for two years – not my day, then lol. No worries, I wasn't committed to owt yesterday.
Today I have the first noted runner from this season going in the shape of Lenny’s Spirit (4.15 Beverley). I shall tread lightly just to see if my flat eyes were focused properly when I marked it. 13/2 Ew.
