I have to back:

Lounge Lizard - 4.15 Catterick 3/1 Win

One that I've been following and who needs to fill his frame. A natural jumper imo, who needs 3m+ to be seen at his best.

Daly sends him up to Catterick, an unusual venue for him to send his horses ( 1-2 in chases over the last 5 years). Blinkers on for the first time.

After his last run on 31st December (2m 4f), I wrote:

Lounge Lizard ran well enough and jumped, again, like a natural. He did well and will benefit from further.

My previous comments were:

"He’s only five, has had only six hurdle races in his career and they bang him straight into chasing. Mind you, looking at the blood, it says chasing through and through, doesn’t it?. Interesting that they’ve pitched him into this race: not a poor contest, by any stretch. The betting has him short enough for a novice thrown into handicap company. It could be that this one has shown something at home. Trianer Daly has had 6 winners from his last 12 runners, too. Remarkably good form."

After his race that day, I wrote:

"An intriguing runner. Still an unfurnished baby, to my eyes, who needs to fill his frame. There was a good deal of stable confidence, the way he was backed into favourite. One thing to note is his jumping; he looks a natural and he'll be one to follow for me. A proper stayer in the making imo."

Cheers lads. It's good to see one go in, even if the price wasn't the biggest.

LOUNGE LIZARD, back on a sound surface and over the longest trip he's tackled, wasn't entirely fluent but he turned in an improved display in first-time blinkers to win at the third attempt over fences. He still looks a bit raw so there may be a bit more to come.

So said the RP race analysis.

'Still looked a bit raw' is an understatement imo. He's a big, raw baby with lots more growing to be done , if you look at his frame.

His jumping was, in the main, just very good: a real forte. This was ground that would have been lively enough, even though a bit cut up on the surface. If you look, he has a knee action as high as you like.

Only 6, he looks like an out-and-out stayer to me, who'll go in proper soft/heavy ground, as the Kayf Tara would suggest.

If ever there is a horse to follow it's this one and providing they're easy with him, we can look forward to a second chase season where any amount of staying races beckon. 3/12 miles around Haydock would be ideal, to me.

I rather hope they ease him off now and let him grow. There's plenty of time but they'll need to treat him gently, bring him along as he grows and the future looks bright. Welsh Nash type in time, too, don't you think?
