Here are my bets for the UK's all-weather races today. Initial selections are from the Wolverhampton meeting. There may be more to follow later.

Note, the point of writing up these selections is always to illustrate which horses are carrying my personal bets. And those bets are always derived/determined from the processes outlined in the book: UK All-Weather Racing: A Specialist's Guide to Finding Value on

18:30 WOLVERHAMPTON Handicap (0-70) Class (5) 4yo+ 6F

INITIAL BLUE
he’s an Improving 4 year old gelding and a distance winner. He last ran 27 days ago at Kempton in a Class 6 over 6 furlongs, finishing 1st of 8 runners winning by 3.25 lengths.
I
He’s upped to a Class 5 today where he’s previously won and he’s over the same distance. His highest winning mark is 55 and is 62 today. He’s previously raced 3 times at the course without winning.

Hollie Doyle takes the ride today and she has a 19% win strike rate at the course over the past two years. He led his last race from start to finish but generally he likes to run prominently. He’s drawn in 5 so if the instructions are to go forwards he’s in a decent draw to enable a good position.

He impressed LTO with a decisive victory in blinkers three weeks back and he ticks a lot of boxes : improving, right trip, ideal surface, proven at this level. The RaceIQ metrics indicate that it was a strong run race.

INITIAL BLUE Win @ 5.7

My data has flagged him up as one to give serious consideration too.

I want to back him but in a race chock full of pace I need a bigger price. I priced the race and IB came out at 5.1.

I find it difficult to plot how a race with so much pace will unfold, if IB is amenable to tucking in behind the leaders he could romp this.
