Sorry for no bets at Wolverhampton yesterday. If there is nothing of interest them simply I don’t bet.
The next few days are going to be tricky as we have a family crisis as a family member is seriously ill.
Here are my bets for the UK's all-weather races today. Initial selections are from the Newcastle meeting. There may be more to follow later.
Note, the point of writing up these selections is always to illustrate which horses are carrying my personal bets. And those bets are always derived/determined from the processes outlined in the book: UK All-Weather Racing: A Specialist's Guide to Finding Value on the AW
Newcastle 16:14
Age Of Time he’s a 5 year old gelding by Dubawi. This will be his debut race at Newcastle. He’s recently been placed at both Wolverhampton and Kempton over a mile in strongly run races.
The Wolverhampton race looks like a strong race. The 2nd in that race Antiquity has recently won since in another strong race. This clearly franks the form.
The Kempton race he lost in the final furlong to Port Noir. The finishing sectional show they both finished off their races well, just Port Noir had more in reserve. Port Noir franked the form winning NTO.
So he’s adapting well to different surfaces and courses and running some good sectionals in strong run races. He finishes off his races well which is certainly a requirement at Newcastle as the finish is up hill and this is where Age Of Time will most likely win this race.
Billy Loughnane rides and he’s 1-1 on the gelding. I see this as a strong positive as he knows the horse and rarely rides a bad race.
The horse I like at a decent EW price is Pallas Lord. He’s an 8 year old by Dandy Man. He’s a course and distance winner with a record of 4 wins and 5 places from 22 over C&D. His last effort 5 days ago was I believe over an inadequate 7F. The race itself was a strong race won by Lord Capulet a horse that looks really well treated on his current handicap (should be in your tracker). Pallas Lord was doing really well in 2nd up until 5 furlongs and then faded and wasn’t given a hard time once the race was gone.
I feel he’s a 7.5 furlong horse. That said I think he’s better horse over a mile. The concern I have is his finishing sections prove that he struggles with stamina up the hill and is often beaten on the run in especially in a fast run race.
On 31/1/26 over C&D he ran a big race just getting beaten by Dream Illusion by a neck. The figures prove that it was an above average race and he only lost by a neck.
Jason Hart rides him and he was the last jockey to win on him. Jason has 4 wins from 15 on the horse. I see this as a positive.
Age Of Time win bet 3.5 BOG
Pallas Lord EW bet @ 9 BOG
15:42 NEWCASTLE
Grant Wood is a 7 year old gelding by Caravaggio. He’s a course and distance winner. The handicapper has dropped him 7lbs and he’s dropping two classes. He’s raced 3 times over course and distance and has won once and placed twice. His recent form is poor, but most of that has been on the turf. He last run over C&D on 31/01/26 in a class 4 over 7F and finished well down the field. He’s over 6F today which is much more suitable. He’s also dropped in class which should make life slightly easier. David Nolan rides him tomorrow
Beale Street is a 5 year old gelding who’s a C& D winner. He last run 24/1/26 which was his comeback run and he finished well down the field. His record over C&D is 3 wins from 7 runs. He last won off a mark of 73 and today he’s off 75. He’s a couple of lbs heavier than I would have liked but he has the ability to win this race if he’s on his A game. He’s also dropping in class which should make life slightly easier. Paul Mulrennan rides today.
Grant Wood EW @ 8.0
Beale Street EW @ 13.0
