Following on from the very successfull "Funday Sunday/TheFamous Five have it right off at Chaddesley" I feel that the time is right to start this thread all about Pointing and Hunterchasing as we move into the time of the year when they come into their own.

Please if you have any input for these type of races post them here.

There is a Point to Point at Horseheath on New Years Eve and is always hugely enjoyable and one that I always look forward to.

Then on January 8th we have the first Hunterchase of the season at Taunton 15:30 "The Geoffrey Bosely "Tally Ho" Open Hunterchase a course that always makes you feel very welcome

I will start with the horse to take out of the meeting yesterday in my opinion was the Dan Skelton horse in the opening 2mile 4Furlong trained by Nick Pearce HOOJ 10 lengths clear coming to the second last only to tip up........was mighty impressive up to that point.

Larkhill kicks off 2026 on Sunday with a decent entry of 96. However looking at the weather forecast, it could be touch and go as it's a really exposed course and if it freezes there, it freezes! It would be a shame if we lost the meeting as it's being run by former PPA CEO, Peter Wright who felt complete retirement was beyond him and threw his hat into the ring to run this fixture (Larkhill Racing Club - like yesterday at Chadds, it's a club meeting rather than a hunt-run one although many of the helpers cross over anyway).

Yes I agree re Hooj yesterday. He was vastly superior to the rest in what looked like a nice maiden. As two other horses came down at the same fence and they are portable ones, I suspect there is a problem with the siting of it (friend there yesterday who is a course inspector also thought that) and it's important that it's looked at.

Although it was great to see former JFF forumite, Harley John the beneficiary of Hooj's departure.

Alnwick 03/01/26 12:30 first race although I have never been there I am reliably informed that it is a “ Cracking” course and very picturesque with sea views ……watch out for any that Gina Ellis or Kelly Morgan takes up there 😉

Thought Ping Pong Paddy was the eyecatcher from Chaddersly and thought Hugos New horse did very well to get his pilot around in 3rd.

I’ve only been to Alnwick once and a sea fret came down and we couldn’t see anything! We were going to go to the last meeting but were travelling back home the following day and it was too much travelling now we’re getting old.

I liked PPP early in his career when he was with Chris Barber as he won his maiden well at Cothelstone and followed up next time at Chilfrome in a Restricted ridden by Will Biddick both times. That was in April 23 so he seems to have missed a year and is now with current connections. He's already won once for them in a Novice Riders (at Chadds) and off this latest run, should be hard to beat next time in a similar race.

I spoke to HNH's trainer prior to the race and she was concerned about the pilot so yes, he too should be noted.

You're getting the hang of this Pointing lark, Danny!

Today’s meeting at Horseheath had the biggest crowd I have ever seen for a NYE fixture (including Cottenham !)
People still want to go Pointing now more than they ever did !!
A Dead Sport definitely not.
Only down side today was an injury to a Lady jockey….air ambulance attended but she was transferred to hospital by road after be treated for nearly an hour.

I think they are planning on going to Larkhill on Sunday (currently looking like the frost might do for it sadly) as they are championing the Hands and Heels race
