Urgent Advice Needed

Private tenants now have hardly any rights at all unless they are still Rent Act tenants from before 15/1/89 or assured tenants from pre 28/2/97 when the law was changed to make assured shortholds the default tenure . As was said when that happened the only assured thing is that the landlord has you by the shorthold and curlies .

For tenants where you suspect the landlord is mortgaged the only safeguard is to do as rory says ask for proof that the letting sia pproved , many won't be though and you might lose the letting you want and not be at risk as the landlord is paying .

The other important thing is that if you get a notice addressed to the occupier telling you that proceedings are being taken against the owner do something then as the notice is for you not the owner .

We lost our £3k deposit last time as well Rory, which is another reason I now steer well clear of these private landlords.
