I have tons of VHS tapes, nearly all of which are in excellent or near brand new condition.

The local charity shops say they no longer accept tapes (but they'll accept a player if it's working).

Have any of you disposed of VHSs without simply dumping them?

I think it would be a real shame just to bin them.

Charity shops most certainly will accept old VHS tapes

What they will certainly not accept is mass collections of midget porn

I'm happy to bin anything I recorded myself (including a few Grand Nationals) but I have loads of genuine commercial stuff: lots of Disney classics, John Fords, Frank Capras etc. Also a few TV (Only Fools & H, etc).

I've got video tapes everywhere; programmes I've recorded and never got round to seeing. Whole afternoons of racing. Keep wondering when I'll have time to watch them all. However, having just heard that the BBC are planning to scrap BBC4 that will free up most evenings, as I very rarely watch anything else. Dug out 12 Monkeys and Orlando to watch the other day.

Still got my machine plumbed in as well and watch vids now and then. Watched Fred Dibnah last week, what a guy he was.

I've got, somewhere a video about the family that bred Flakey Dove, but I've got so many videos it's a case of finding it. I've even got a Betamax recorder in the loft.

That made me sit up. There is little tv that i do watch but the story does seem to be exaggerated greatly. Its seems unlikely

If the bbc want to save money then dump F1. It was a disgrace that they paid so much taxpayers money for a "sport" that is genuinely hated by so many.

My other half is a hoarder and it does my head in. I used to have bookcases full of books i read and what for? Once they went down to oxfam i never gave it a second thought. how often do we read a book twice?

With recordings, if not watched in first week they will never be watched

Other people love F1. You can't have a mainstream tv channel that only shows stuff you personally like. I can't stand Strictly and Eastenders but I respect the fact that others do and therefore they are valid uses of BBC cash.

Like it or not F1 has a huge following - your personal dislike of it is irrelevant.

Just been speaking to my daughter on the phone and told her about BBC4; her reply was 'well, that's your life pretty much over then mum'.

f1 took up a huge proportion of the sporting budget. Suspiciously so. It was unjustifiable. What i also find objectionable is that they squeeze it into every news programme at every opportunity. It baffles me. I have a good wide range of friends who follow the usual sports and not a single one of them has any time at all for it. One says its a "sport" for those hat don't like sport

Eastendrs and strictly cost a helluva lot less per hour and probably get bigger audiences. Also im not sure many people hate those programmes in the same way that others despise f1.

i know they were on about scrapping Beeb 4 last March...can someone post a link with an update..i can't find anything about it still being scrapped

i'll be peed off if they do..its about all i really bother with...no other channel caters for that stuff.

It's not being scrapped. It has been denied and smeone at the bbc floated it as a possibility if there were further cuts. There was a big outcry last time around so it's playing a game. It's a gem of a channel.

thank goodness for that

they might as well take most of it off if they take that..i've never seen such a waste of bandwith with some of the channels..some of the sh1te people watch..its unreal.

They've said they can't guarantee it beyond 2016-17. So a stay of execution and I can breathe again. My main reason for retiring was so that I could stay up late watching BBC4.
