A politician is too much of a boring selection. I always favoured Shakespeare or Darwin over Churchill for the British one.

Sir Tom Jones! Must've made Wales internationally known in a way that any amount of other worthies haven't. Bevan for his humanitarian drive, even if it's gone on to be grossly mismanaged. Vaughan Williams for the music, although perhaps not widely appreciated enough.

There must be some Welsh inventors, designers, mechanical and social engineers I can't think of right now - I'd say 'greatest' would have to be someone who's done something which has contributed to the greater good of their country, or, like Brunel, Edison or Baird, whose contributions have rippled on through time to affect us all in some way. There's got to be someone out there in Baa-Baa Land who's done that?

This guy would surely win it for the MALE population ...................:D:D:D

While testing a new angina treatment, researchers in Merthyr Tydfil discovered (purely by accident) that the new drug had erection-stimulating side effects. This discovery would go on to form the basis for Viagra.[8] The inventor Howard Stapleton, based in Merthyr Tydfil, developed the technology that has given rise to the recent mosquitotone or Teen Buzz phenomenon.[9]

I may have to resort to Googling 'famous Welsh people' and see what it's gleaned beyond Bonnie Tyler and Catherine Zeta-Jones...

Happily would do so. Know the area very well and unlike much of this forum, theres a great sense of humour down there

I'm afraid that I cannot see anything funny about people being forced out of work through no fault of their own, maybe I don't understand alternative humour.
