Walkers Crisps

But more importantly, for all you foodies, what about :

Potato and ceriac mash creamed with peanut butter - hmmm

I'll be trying this over Chrismas.

Steamed lightly, Shads, and I will pass your compliments on to the chef, my daughter.

"........celeriac is lovely and bursting with flavour! ......"

You're not Maggie Thatcher, Shads, just because you say something it doesn't make it a fact, just an opinion.

Obviously, from this discussion, your palate is much more educated than mine.;)

I just find the notion that celeriac is flavourless a bizarre one, Colin - unless it is cooked to death, that is. Whether you like it or not is a completely different matter, but I wouldn't ever call it flavourless.

Indeed it was.

Ingredients

1 Celeriac peeled (leaving about two thirds of a celeriac. I'm not very graceful)
2 Onions
2 Carrots
2 medium peeled potatoes
1 Beef tomato
1 big clove garlic
1 Litre Chicken stock
1 sprig thyme
250ml cream

Soften onions, then garlic - fry with celeriac, carrots, potato and tomato. Add Chicken stock and thyme and simmer for about 30 mins. Remove Thyme stalk, Add Cream and blend.

Guaranteed bursting with flavour.

Oh, yes. That is the predominant flavour. The rest of the ingredients are merely there to show it in its best light.

Closing date for the crisp flavour competition is Friday. I'm hoping that Walkers don't contact members of TH in their product research phase or my entries are bu~~ered!

On the other hand they may see TH membership as an ideal cross section for their market research, in which case I'm stocking up on Morrisons Handcooked crisps, and will write to Walkers explaining my reason for abandoning those lovely little blue bags.

However, I would advise that a well made celeriac soup is superb as a starter or snack, and this thread has inspired me to find a peanut oil essence to drizzle on top, quite amazing how humour and sarcasm can generate useful ideas.

I'll let you know on Boxing Day how it went down - MR2

Think that Walkers have used the same software incompetants as the RP.

They appeared to suggest, last week, that the flavour finalists would be announced today (15th December) rather than as previously stated -January 2009.

This morning they have reverted to the original deadline, I'm so sorry for all those celeriac-lovers who may have to wait awhile longer.

Sick as the proverbial parrot!

Just putting pen to paper in order to frame my disgust at the ‘best/final’ flavours selected by Walkers. I love crisps and so I put a lot of thought and spent time in discussion with other crisp lovers about what new flavours they might want. Together we came up with two novel ‘cuisine’ flavours. So, what have Walkers chosen:
Onion Bhaji - could be curry flavour, been tried before, horrible
Fish and Chip - I thought there was already a snack with this flavour – horrible
Cajun squirrel - could be anything, but almost certainly similar to BBQ chicken, nothing new
Builders Breakfast - probably bacon and egg flavour, there’s a sickie
Chilli and Chocolate – somewhat more of novelty (quite probably the one Walkers will choose because the others are S**t)
Crispy duck and hoisin – how bloody predictable.
I will be relentless in my criticism of Walkers crisps, I will be sending my two flavours to Morrisons, hoping they can be accommodated in their ‘oven cooked’ range.
Never will another Walkers crisp packet cross my front door!

The chilli and chocolate, as you say, could be interesting. Yuk to the rest though.

A friend of mine is Brasilian (her spelling - she insists) and swears by a spoonful of cocoa in a good chilli con carne. Tried it and it's great.

We took it a bit further and added chilli power (v. small amount) to our drinking chocolate. Adds depth and a further warmth. Great in a flask on a f-freezing day at the races.

Apparently some London chocolatiers specialise in chocolate with chilli, but I haven't got round to trying that yet.

Just completed my critique of their selected flavours, obviously the judges were numpties.

Can I find an address to send it to - No, in fact the 'contact us' page doesn't work.

Lord, bring back the proper racing, I'm wound up like a spring ready to explode.

Had to spend hours trying to find parent companies of Walkers Crisps, turns out to be Pepsico UK and Ire.

Certainly made my feelings felt in the 750 characters allowed.

By the way, as promised, at Christmas I experimented with potato, celeriac and peanut butter - a very nice combination, but don't overdo the peanut butter (and get a good quality one).
