At last, an oasis of fertile racing that provides, if not winners, lovely, competitive racing after the desert of the last couple of weeks. It's so good to see a card not awash with class five and six class races over 5f - 1m.
There are just a couple of interest:
Squealer - York 1.50 12/1 Ew 5 places
I've followed Squealer since his two-year-old days and it seems to me that he's improved of late. It may be that there is more to come, as quite often happens with sprinters as they age. He loves the course, loves the distance and looks competitive off this mark. Naturally the draw is unknown. I suppose I might guess that low numbers and the far side is the place to be so box 16 doesn't inspire the greatest confidence but I shan't let that dissuade me.
Santorini Star - York 4.10 11/2 Ew 4 places.
Lightly raced, After his last effort in a G3 at Fairyhouse over 1m 6f, this step up to 2m may well be right up his street given the breeding. The stable is in rude health so I'm hoping that this will frame, at least. That 11/2 looks good value, don't you think?
It's a terrific meeting and will be a good watch, regardless of how my two do.
