West Wing

That was unexpected!! I wonder if he can stay out of jail, what with Josh looking for experience staff?? And this time, I don't know!!

It was excellent agreed. Right up there with "Two Cathedrals" and "Noel", both from series 2.

AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH - don't give away plot lines - some of only have 5 tv channels and are behind with the series'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! h:)

This was on in Irl about 3 months ago. I thought the opening scene with Toby and CJ in the room but not talking - was the best 2 mins acting I have ever seen in TV Drama.

The only way to watch top class American drama is to buy the DVD boxsets of each series. That way you can binge over a weekend and afterwards re-watch them with the commentary on.

he episode of the West Wing that is on tonight (and that the smartarses over there will already have seen) features the debate between the two presidential candidtes. It was totally unscripted and in the USA was shown live.

Fantastic stuff. I missed last week's show and am attempting to download it but not having much luck so far. Looks like I will have to watch them out of turn.

To be honest, i thought that was the worst episode of the series. I'm up to the second half of election day, and have downloaded the next episode to watch over the weekend.

I overheard this evening's episode (it was on in the next room while I sorted out this weekend's winners).

If it was totally unscripted (which I sincerely doubt) then full marks to the actors for a) being able to talk without a script for nearly an hour and b ) bluffing knowledge of socio-economic politics for that time. FFS, real politicians couldn't do that.

Au contraire, mon ami, politicians have been bluffing a knowledge of everything for years, let alone an hour or so! :D

Oh ye of little faith - it was. The actors know the subject matter and can expect the questions they will get so can prepare in character. Mike Leigh - and though the best known for it is far from the only one - formed a career out of "writing2 screenplays in this way.

You are obviously not a follower of The West Wing otherwise you will have been well aware of both candidates' views on the matters raised, so it wasn't hard for them. They have been making speeches week after week on all the subjects covered in the debate.

As for real politicians being unable to do it, krizon may have been joking but she was right - they do it all the time. But you don't have to be either a politician or an actor to spend about five minutes on each of half a dozen specific subjects such as those covered by the "presidential candidates" - some of us on here would be perfectly capable of it.

The very last episode - #154 - of The West Wing airs in the States on Sunday night. End of an era!
