Whale In The Thames

Looks like it's beached and seems like blood is coming from the rear of the whale, i've turned it over, I can't watch animals in distress, i do have a soft spot!

I know the story of the chap from Birmingham who claimed to have spotted a whale in the river. When asked what type of whale it was, he replied...

...a bicycle whale

(one of those jokes that is better said, than written down)

I'll get my coat.

Looks like he's going further up the Thames now that the tide is coming in. He looks happy enough swimming along the river! Apparently there have been sightings of another whale of the same species off the coast of Southened so there is specualtion that they are together - there is also speculation that they may be the same pair of Norhtern Bottlenose whales spotted off Aberdeen last week. Hope he gets out ok & is just on a jaunt - he's given the tourists something extra to see!

The difficulties of pruducing a rolling news channel were highlighted more than once. Particularly when the on-the-spot reporter said "I think that what we have here is a large dolphin or porpoise" and the anchor-woman in the studio said that it had been identified as a young northern bottle-nosed whale".

"Well, if you must put a crime reporter on a whale watching mission....." was the gist of his reply.

I've just checked the news channels and they are still concerned, as it has repeatedly attempted to beach itself. I really hope it gets to safety, this country needs a good news story.

I was going to suggest that last night. I don't remember any stories of disorientated whales having a happy ending. I can't help thinking it's a nature signal that it's dying :(

There could be a rescue attempt this afternoon. They have divers in the water that will try and coax the whale to shallow water so that they can check it over. I can't help but feel that this is all too late .
