What A Beauty!

No, it was the deceased friend's of mine Krizon. She became incapable of looking after all her lovely plants, so I have tried to rescue as many of them as possible.

Not only do I grow beautiful primula's as on page 1, I also have a knack for growing fruit with ears.......

Isty talking of wasps.... we have a regular bunch that hang around the vicinity and have done for years now.... this year they had nested in my wall on the side of the house that holds up my arch and gate I sealed them in with sealant in a gun... :o

Last year they nested two doors down in an annex (used as a bedroom ) under the bedroom roof, I never told the occupant a young lady who rents the property, as they wont nest in the same place twice.......

Two years ago my next door neighbour who has a mid link property and had her fireplaces bricked or boarded up! similar to me,(we had fireplaces in our bedrooms when built) she realised one night that they had nested in her chimney pot(I had mine sealed up from outside) and every night went into her bedroom wardrobe(hope they never thought of dressing up? ) which backed on to the ex fireplace, can't be more frightening than that surely???

Yes I kill wasps and think they are a nuisance, a product spray called !!RAID!! is available in most big stores/supermarkets £1-50p very good and even smells nice too but last week I had a queen bee in my living room window I caught hold of it bare handed and opened door and threw it out..........

P.S. MY GARDEN IS PLANTED OUT JUST WAITING FOR THE RESULTS??????????? :o

Funnily enough Bees I'm absolutely fine with, they dont bother me at all.

Right, I'm off to block off all chimneys, doors and windows oh and throw out any aggressive looking wardrobes (its going to be messy when I get to the fitted ones.)

Wouldn't it have been easier to have just opened the window? :brows:
I did but it was obvious his GPS was not working and my windows have full nets on them, so the only option was to do as I did!!!........... ......... :P

I'm alone in the house this weekend. On Friday when I went upstairs to bed I found 2 dead wasps by one of the windows! On Saturday at lunchtime I looked at the outside of the front of the house and saw that there was a lot of wasp activity above one of our bedroom windows.Thinking I'd better get the people in on Monday I went upstairs to make sure all the windows were fully closed. There were 14 dead or dying wasps in the bedroom. Saw one of the windows was slightly opened and closed it.

This morning having a leisurely read of the Sundays ,unshowered and unshaven, I went up to use the en-suite facilities at about 10.00. Iwas surprised to see a wasp struggling to get out of the closedwindow. I let it out and had a shower, walked back into the bedroom and horror of horrors there were about twenty wasps in the room. All the windoows had been closed and while I rapidly grabbed grabbed some clothes the number seemed to increase.
I can't see where the buggers are getting in and have no intention of going in there now to find out.

Do you have floorboards, TS? They may have nested under boards or in boarded wall spaces, and can crawl out through skirting boards, etc. We tend to think vespas will always nest high up, but that's not always the case. Since you denied them their 'upstairs' abode, they may have formed an underground cell...

If you want to find out where they're nesting, you could try placing a saucer of dampened sugar in the room. They will be attracted to it, have a snack, and then fly to the space where they've nested, to feed the wasplings.

  Please, please, NOT the flame thrower! I know it'll take care of the problem, but think of those insurance premiums!

Gorgeous Merlin!

I usually always grow sweetpeas and lots of cut flowers for the house but this year, there was so much to do everywhere else on the farm that I didn't get around to it. In fact, I have black-plasticked all my raised kitchen beds (they are eight of them, 12' x 8'!!) bar three, which I am still in the process of digging over. I spent a happy afternoon yesyerday diggin one over and ache this morning to prove it... and their were loads of ant nests too, come to think of it.

Next task is to then start from scratch again this autumn and plan them out properly - I intend to put in a lot of raspberry and other soft fruits (but only a few strawberries) and build a fruit cage.

Needless to say, one of the items from the fire the assessor decided to dispute was my brand new ride-on lawn mower - he reckons it could be repaired.... Quite how I'm meant to do the lawns in themeantime defeats me, so it's off to the farm co-op today to get a replacement. Aaaaaggghhh !!

I reckon if you provide the buffet, some of us forumites would love a couple of days down on the faaarm, digging and mulching and clearing things up for you. We could combine it with a day's racing at Exeter or Taunton, too!
