What are you backing Today? Part 2

My advice is to specialise in whatever your favourite type of race is, handicap or novice, maybe top grade. This way it cuts the number of bets down. Keep records as detailed as possible to see what works. Avoid ‘talking horses’ they are never value and often disappoint. I use a simple rule of thumb to determine value: subtract 1 from number of runners and divide by 2, this is max odds; divide by 2 again, this is minimum odds. EG: 8 runner race value is between 7/2 and 7/4.

PS. Ian Davies is really a very nice man and will point you in the right direction.

Thank you, yrs i try to stick to what i think I'm good at or the races i prefer, sticking to the top grade is a really good idea, i think i see people doing that in here.

Great advice. My own train of thought is following trainers, Scottish trainers but included Nicky Richards.
Get to know the horses , the patterns etc.
Most trainers are creatures of habit. Even get to know the owners, are they reliable when the moneys down ?
Nicky Richards is included because he is reliable and quite predictable and almost in Scotland. 🙂.
Best of luck with whatever system works for you.
