What wins the Cheltenham Festival handicaps?

I thought I was on to something when I saw a novice hurdler hack up in Ireland
It turned out to be Kopek Des Borders so I waited for a Cheltenham quote for a handicap Duh ! the rest is history
...I was thinking Martin Pipe or something ..damn thing could just about win a Champion Hurdle lol

Far too early for me to have a strong opinion, but I have backed The Wallpark for the Pertemps Final because I thought he ran well enough in the Long Walk to suggest 152 is fair, he had previously won round Cheltenham and I just think he might be a cut above them all, even conceding weight.

I will be sticking a bet on every conatation of William that runs- Billy,Billie,Will in honour of my bro in law who loved his racing and I would sort out his bets every day. Alongside the Irish raiders I will be looking to find each way punts on Venetia Williams runners as she is in great form and she seems very astute at targetting her nags for specific races.
@DannyB Crebilly was one of his regular punts

Djelo is 12/1 NRNB for the Ryanair which would be a good price if Fact To File and Banbridge ran in the Gold Cup and Il Est Francais went for the Champion Chase. Venetia Williams's horses have often won races with good prize money before the end of December and don't tend to do very well in the Cheltenham handicaps. Carrick Boy ( 50/1?) was one I missed out on and that must have been around 2012/2013. Chambard in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir and L'Homme Presse in the Brown Advisory have been the only two winners since then.

I'm an each way junkie so her lack of wins at Cheltenham does not put me off. And I seldom bet too far in advance because I prefer to try to skip non runners

Wonder if H de B’s Harry des Ongrais will turn up in the Jack Richards novice hcap after that impressive win at Gowran?

This went onto my chalkboard too for the same race. Good to see Henry's form begin to wiggle upwards at the right time too.

Quite apart from the fact we haven't had the weights and entries confirmed yet, we live in an increasingly-unpredictable weather climate and we've seen in recent years that the ground at the Cheltenham Festival can vary quite a bit.

In light of all this. though I have, as stated above, had one ante-post bet on a Festival handicap, in the main I'm happy to wait for a clearer picture.

Does the Moorebattle still carry a festival bonus?

I had a quick look at the entries (weights on Tuesday, I think). Favour And Fortune looks like being given top weight off 140 so it could be that the bottom weight could be rated as low as 114 if enough come out (currently 34 entries, 18 max) although I need to check if there are any Irish entries who might be rated higher than FAF.

It might end up 'Shunter' type of event with the winner not having to carry a penalty if it goes for a chase at the festival.

And does the Imperial Cup still carry a bonus. I'm beginning to think they've been 'doing a Skelton' with Go Dante who is now ridiculously well handicapped and could try to double up in the County.

Gonna feel a bit sad on Imperial cup day as I thought it was going to be Surprise Package's for the taking again this year 😪

Ryan Air hasn't been made a handicap again has it ?

Yes and so does the imperial cup.
And the imperial cup is worth £60,000 to the owner,£20,000 to the trainer.
£10,000 for the jockey and £10,000 to the yard.
What's Skelton running?

I think he has two or three in it but what else I noticed is that Chris Gordon only has Aucunrisque which is down enough to be up to defying a penalty.

Won the 2023 Schweppes off 138, went up to 147, was beaten only 3L off that mark in the Sussex Champion Hurdle and is now down to 132.
