Who's good at perms?

I'd be interested to know what type of bets everyone places at The Festival other than the obvious singles? I've had a tinker with e/w multiples in the past but never had any joy.

I just want something at small stakes to keep me interested each day with a potential for a nice payout. Are e/w multiples the way to go or are there other more statistically advantageous bets of a similar nature?

E/W multis

Cross Country Chase
Mares Hurdle
Champion Hurdle
Arkle
RSA

All the novice hurdles worth consideration

You could also include horses like Ned Buntline or similar horses that have the potential to collapse on the day.

Dont know if its useful but the formula for calculating how many doubles/trebles/fourtimers etc. from a pool (P) of different races is (combination, C = type, 2 double, 3 trble, 4- 4timer)

number of bets = P ! /[C ! x (P-C)!] -- where the ! means keep multiplying down towards 1 (eg: 5 ! = 5 x 4x 3 x 2 x 1), looks a bit alien but bear with it .......

so 3 races looking at doubles
(p=3,c=2)
=3x2x1/2x1x(1) = 3 doubles

doubles from 6 races :
(p=6, c=2)
= 6 x5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 / 2x1 x(4 x 3 x 2 x1), looks hard but the multipliers usually cancel in bigger pools to give 6x5/2x1 = 15 doubles

a yankee = doubles - (p=4, c=2) 4x3x2x1/2x1x(2x1)=6, trebles (c=3) 4x3x2x1 / 3x2x1x(1)=4, fourtimer (c=4), 4x3x2x1/4x3x2x1x(1) =1 (as 0! is mathematically defined as 1 oddly enough) = 11 Bets

Finally for cheltenham I might go for sixtimers across the 27 races = P=27, c=6 ==> 27x26x25x24x23x22 etc / 6x5x4x3x2x1x(21x20etc) = 27x26x25x24x23x22/6x5x4x3x2 = a staggering 296010 bets ! Mebbe not ....... but 351 doubles may be easier, better still maybe remove the handicaps from the pool !
