William Hill Hurdle _ Kempton

ROR too slow for Kempton

Can't agree with that, EC1. It's too dismissive of one run. He'd have won the Christmas Hurdle here a couple of seasons ago with a better jump at the last against a champion. He might not have been fully fit here and he might never beat TNO full-stop but I'd want more evidence that he's lost his speed before arriving at that conclusion.

What happened last year with the second season chasers could occur again with the hurdlers. I cannot see HF coping with all of them.

I knew i'd be wrong DO;)

i've worked it out that i'm better being wrong and getting the result right...than actually knowing what i'm talking about like you experts do on NH racing ...and getting it wrong:)

not to worry Grass..if it wins the Fighting Fifth or Xmas hurdle it won't win the CH;)

the two worst en route races to take in..mark my words..then again don't.

seen worse e/w prices than the 25s RoR is now for the CH but it looks like we could have a fantastic renewal on our hands, avoiding injuries

Harry Fry was interviewed on RUK and said it was always the plan to have ROR more forward this year. Last year it was December before ROR had his first race and this year there are races in November and December they want to target en route to the CH.

they maybe such as FF & xmas hurdle...i don't blame him...races i'd also be going for with a horse that won't win another CH..mop up the egg and spooners this season.....give him a run in the big un just for the day out

good plan imo

He surely must go chasing now.

You have to say your boy is going to be vulnerable come March to these impressive young fellas Grassy? :p

Undoubtedly they are a very smart and above-average crop of 2nd-season hurdlers, fonz...and age hardly on HF's side either. Whilst it would be churlish to crab TNOs performance, there are a few ifs/buts/maybes about today's race -though equally, I think it's fair enough that the bookies are exercising caution.

Interesting times ahead, but I'd be surprised if we saw the Champion Hurdle winner today....or at least, not at Kempton anyway.

Don't take it like that, EC1. I'm just disagreeing with you, not saying you're wrong.

What he probably forgot to mention was that running him in a 14k hurdle, around a sharp track and without the blinkers, would all be a part of that 'getting him more forward'. :).

Just my View, but I can't see the horse going anywhere near the Champion Hurdle this season.

From ATR

Trainer Harry Fry believes stable star Rock On Ruby could be in need of a wind operation following his disappointing performance at Kempton on Sunday.

Winner of the Champion Hurdle in 2012 and runner-up to Hurricane Fly at Cheltenham last season, the eight-year-old was readily swept aside by The New One as both horses made their seasonal returns at the Sunbury track.

Rock On Ruby has had issues with his wind in previous years and his trainer believes those problems may have resurfaced.

Fry said: "Essentially he's fine, but we have got one or two niggly things to sort out, namely his wind, so all plans are on hold at the moment.

"He has had wind operations in the past and we're going to check it out again this week. It's possible he could have his palate cauterized.

"We were disappointed not to give The New One more of a race. He was very impressive on the day and we'll have to go back to the drawing board.

"It was a disappointing run and we can't blame it all on the wind issue. He will improve for the run.

"We'll investigate this weekend and make plans from there."
