Not to be controversial for the sake of it. Is there a smell here? Could he possibly have improved some of the horses he has by as much as he seems to? When the turf club inspectors descended on Closutton how come he had his quietest period thereafter? Are the mumbling around just jealousy or there something more here????

I've often thought it but until proven guilty I find everyone innocent. :ninja:

Has any horse who has left his care gone onto better things?

There's a very prominent trainer on the Curragh who is saying he is at it to anyone who will listen....

Who else will win a maiden or novice hurdle between now and March???

Ireland can be a bitter country.

Maybe he is, no one is above suspicion but until it is proved, it's scaremongering.

I don't have stats on it but how many horses are tested per race meet?

The Turf Club are seemingly strict enough these days - they've done Eoin Doyle, Donnchadha Doyle/Andrew Latta (spelt very badly I'm sure) and Tom McLaughlin for what would seem in the main to be fairly minor offences.

ED was done for building a seperate yard on his land and not having it licensed.

Another trainer had ponies in the yard for his children to ride in races and this was considered to be a breach of rules as they were due to run in unlicensed races.

Fair to say there'd be numerous trainers in the UK who'd be getting done under the final rule if the BHA enforced that over here.

I definitely dont want believe the opening remark on this thread and hope to hell there isnt an ounce of truth in it, as for 'killing Irish racing' that has to be a joke, if anything WM is an ambassador for Irish racing - the problem is lack of a rival now that the Meade yard is no longer the force of old, not really Willie's fault.

In fact WMs biggest rival is Gigginstown (even though they have horses with him), maybe if Gigginstown reduced the pool of trainers they use one may emerge to put up a fight, I know these things are cyclical but to a lesser extent is Nick Henderson not starting to dominate in the UK?

I would really hope its not true but whether indicative of anything or not, too many of his seem to quickly fly high and then nothing

Nicky the needle doesnt dominate to anything like the same extent. I doubt he ever would get close to doing so frankly

Harsh on Mullins if there's a whispering campaign, but then what's the downside? Henderson actually got done for it and no-one seems to give a **** no matter how many Festival wins he racks up or how long Sprinter Sacre remains untouchable.

It is because Nicky is a jolly good chap and bon viveur.

You can imagine the screaming here if it had been the evil Paul Nichols.

Just to add, isn't the more obvious explanation for Mullins' dominance his ability to attract numerous moneybags owners in the last couple of years? He's even pulled in the likes of Ricci and Wylie who you would normally expect to be spending their money at home. Very difficult for other Irish trainers to compete with that spending power?

Exactly. He's miles ahead coz he buys the best horses for the richest owners. His facilities are also better than anyone elses.

The stable is amazingly consistent, with no dip in overall form for years. People are queuing up to have horses with him.

Many of the horses have already been in the hands of pre-trainers and put through a sifting process in schooling bumpers before being bought on behalf of a stable owner and admitted to the yard. This helps to explain his domination of bumpers and novice events.

I'd agree with clivex that some of the younger horses don't train on (So Young would be an example). In recent years the horses from his stable which win the open Grade 1s are mostly his French imports, while the ones that start out with him are less likely to reach the top when leaving the novice ranks. Florida Pearl was a big exception of course.

And the celebrating if Pipe was proved to have done it despite the most disgusting slur campaigns from his jealous peers I've ever seen in horse racing?

Even two ridiculously misjudged TV programmes found feck all but envious McCain and the like

Is it because he has lots of bumper horses who make good hurdles and are then burned out after this?

Think we'll be seeing more exceptions from here on in. Champagne Fever, Ballycasey etc will be flying the flag for years to come hopefully.

You'd expect so, because the quality of the intake is improving all the time.
