Winter Competitions YES OR NO

Definitely get involved with the competitions, Barjon. Good fun.....especially when we beat the Racing Forum! And the TTF which is so brilliantly run by DG, is well worth doing. A couple of years ago I put up Defi du Seuil as my Dark horse and won that part of the competition. I won £50 in betting vouchers which I spent on the Grand National That year.....and managed to back the first, second and fourth so I was very happy!

Ok, you twisted my arm jinnyj :)

Would hate to see this forum go, and really hope that it continues.

A combination of Covid Lockdown and Flat Racing is surely responsible for there being little in the way of traffic over the last few months, and it would seem (to me, at any rate), not the best time to take such a momentous decision. I do hope all involved in the running of the site take their time when deciding what to do.

If it's any consolation, I have been permanently banned from Twitter for posting a standard reply of "Fu*ck off, you useless fat fu*cking fu*cker" over the course of a few weeks, whenever Boris Johnson posted a Tweet. I will therefore be looking to contribute my racing thoughts via this medium alone, during the winter months.

An Trump doesn't even get a warning

Arguing things to death is a young person's game - and the forum was at its best when there were strong characters wanting to do this. Even if it boiled over once in a while. The urge not to bother posting is a bit too strong at the moment. What I notice about cheltenham week is that many of the forum are at it, or doing better things than posting on the forum, and its a relatively quiet uninteresting week if you were to judge by the forum posts.

I would be in for both. I'm another that has no real interest in the flat so participation drops off a cliff in the summer.

I circumvent these systems for a living

I'd prefer you on here but Twitter is an easy reregistration if needed

Might take you up on this offer, PJ. My new phone arrived yesterday, and I rolled the dice on creating a new account this morning. It all looked rosy until about 8pm, when their bloodhounds tracked me down, and I was suspended again; apparently for violating their rules on ‘Evading a permanent ban’ - shower of snowflake of wankers that they are.

If I can be tits’d having another go, I’ll DM you for tips.

I'm another who hasn't been around as much recently. Partly family issues and partly because my small interest in the flat has dwindled almost to zero. It is, in fact, minus when it comes to Class 6 all weather. The only time I watch the flat these days is when I'm looking at NH prospects.

Like others I just want to record my appreciation of DG's and Col's efforts. I'll try to participate in NH comps and contribute more to the discourse.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them, as I'm sure Roger does too.

I thought about closing the forum in the summer when the hosting was due for renewal, but obviously with lockdown I guessed that would have most likely caused it to be so quiet, which is why I kept it going. I would be loathe to close it while people are still using it, or ever really, as there is a wealth of information and memories on here which I would hate to lose, and hopefully people do, sometimes, look back at old threads. The forum is like my internet baby, it doesn't make money, it costs me money every year, but it was never set up to make money, so that doesn't bother me, if it did I would have sold it long before now, as I have had many offers for it, a 20 year old domain is actually worth quite a bit to the right person :). There aren't many forums that have been running as long as this one, I've been running it for almost half my life!

There isn't much I can do to increase traffic though, without investing serious amounts of time and money, which is why it's so important people don't leave. Obviously some will, either because of age, family commitments, going off racing etc, and there is nothing I, or anyone else, can do to stop that. 'Footfall' usually increases after a mailshot, but I hate doing them as no one likes 'spam', and only do them once or twice a year, usually before Cheltenham and at Christmas. I should have more time later this year and will be looking at doing a few things, which will hopefully work. Having said that, the traffic to the site is actually really high, it's getting people to actually post thats the problem.

Anyway, hope you are all staying safe in these strange times.

I think the forum has been wonderful the last few weeks as "proper" racing has returned

Lots of activity, good debate, no squabbling and plenty of hot takes

Long live the jumps

Well said PJ. Plus we got a good turnout for the 10 To Follow in the end.

There is a distinct flavour change to the tone of the discussions lately. People are respecting opinions and responding with proper interaction...It's fine having banter, but it should stay at that...Degrading someone's input is only going to put them off further contribution's. Lots of people visit this site on a regular basis, why?... because there are some exceptional judges and some very interesting subjective discussions.

It’s good to see. I’ve only been a member for a couple of months, but I have been tremendously impressed by the depth of knowledge and the constructive debates free of any rancour.

As I said before, I love this place and there are loads of really interesting people on here. Gutted that the TTF has escaped me due to unforeseen circumstances but at least you’ll have one less serious competitor to contend with......

Why don’t you just post your list and you can compete from the sidelines!

As Jonathon Ross would say, this place is full of rancours.
