Donald Mccain on the morning line saying he's not that interested in French breds, based on the fact he doesn't get the form (if i can put it like that), the prices to pay for them are extortionate and obscene.

Oh, he also said they don't perform as well at Northern tracks!

He should have added that a bit like white men, about 90 percent can't jump (though we can expect this to change once they demolish the grand national fences to inadvertantly pave the way for them),.:D

Anyway, wanted to know the feelings of the folks on here,...

Was what he said wisdom or rubbish?

There's some on here with excellent angles on the frenchies, so has he not been reading in?! :)

I didn't think that's what he meant. More that he doesn't have either the right connections or the right amount of money to buy them so he sticks with what he knows and what he can afford. Which makes sense.

......it was early in the morning, though and I hadn't had my second cup of coffee so I may have misconstrued [sp] what he said...

Lol, I hadn't had my second cup either, so I may be wrong, but I thought I'd summed up the gist of what he said. :)

I think the truth lies somewhere inbetween marb. I don't think he's his fathers son, though; always comes across as very affable when we've seen him trackside. But then again [same applies to David Pipe; also a nice bloke] they haven't had to fight for where they are now and it McCain and Pipe senior probably had to be very thick skinned to achieve what they did.

Love the title Marble whatever you do don't mix your words.

He's a very good trainer but with limited funds which is just the way of things.....we'd all have a horse with PN or NJH if we were a Simon Munir with money to burn and a love of the sport.......surely he didn't say they don't perform as well up North?.........did he mean Perth? or did he miss a certain French bred who won 3 betfair Chases and threw in a Roan Chase at Aintree for luck....very weird thing to say

Thats a good point..Martin + Ginger started with nowt handed down to them...Martin though has kidded the press into thinking he doesn't run the show now..but the film C4 did of the stable clearly showed who is still in charge there..i think he got fed up with the nonsense that goes with actually being known as the trainer..so lets son be the figurehead...i love Martin..such attention to detail..thats not passed down in genes..a total one off that guy. If Martin wasn't there it wouldn't be as successful imo.

There's more than a few who been guilty of the same thing in the past EC. Roger Fisher was hailed as a great trainer when in fact it was Dudley Moffat who ran the show. Charlotte Postlewaite never went near her horses they were trained by Ronnie (Alias Foster) Postlewaite who was an on course bookie. I was at Ken Oliver's for years when the tinklers were there and saw him once from a distance on a big grey horse on the horizon..was like something out of a movie. His wife Rhona did all the training assisted by John Mackie while Ken sat at home drinking and watching the magic roundabout and Andy Pandy does porn LOL......Others I had the pleasure of being there to see what went on were Gordon Richards and Jonjo who were very much in charge and very much knew everything that was going on. No doubt there are loads more who are little more than figureheads.

I am however unaware of the set up at Donald McCains yard...are you saying that he doesn't run the show that this guy Martin does? if so who is Martin or should I say Martin who?

I'd like to add Frannie Lee as hands on but tbh I haven't a clue if he was or wasnt but I had strawberries and champagne out of the boot of his rolls royce at warwick races when my friend rode for him so lets just say he was lol

The links here. Go 12 minutes in to the show.

Tan and Moe....I did get two parts of my original post wrong, he didn't say the French breds don't do well up north, rather just that Irish point to pointers seem to do well up there. Also, he said the prices for the French horses are obscene, NOT that their ruining the jumps game.

The reason he does very well in the North is simply coz he spends about 100k per horse more than anyone!

some funny stuff there

no not Mcain.....i were on about how Martin Pipe still really runs the show..David is just pretending to be the trainer to give Martin a quiet life

did you not see the C4 thing last year?..it were hilarious..the whole thing was Martin..he's a bit like Sir M Prescott..he's got colour cards for every horse and his attention to detail is amazing..no way does the son call the shots there imo

i love Martin Pipe..complete devotion to duty
