World Throughbred Rankings

The whole piece is a touch simplistic and badly constructed. I would have expected more given the focus and discussion on the topic.

The timing of this recalibration is surely just to keep Frankel in the thoughts of the public and maintain/arouse interest in horse racing!? I,m with Swinburn, but I don't actually understand the system either!!

Don't get me wrong I love Frankel and am busy doodling him ((http://dueysdrawings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10890 ):) Will show you all when finished) but they don't need to over egg his achievements, he doesn't need it!

From an RP article on this topic:

In October it was revealed the 141 allotted to Dancing Brave for his brilliant Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe success in 1986 was in part awarded as a present for retiring handicapper David Swannell.

Nice......

Frankel was being under-egged. Now he's just being egged.

The BHA's Phil Smith now claims that's wrong, and that it actually happened for Shergar in 1981.

Thing is, Swannell actually retired in 1983, so should have been around for the 1982 ratings (unless he purposely stepped down from the IC panel after 1981 for some reason, which seems unlikely).

The other problem is that Shergar's 140 was a straight rating, in that nothing was added on for his ease of win (despite it being based on his wide-margin Derby success) whilst Dancing Brave's 141 had around 4lbs added on for ease of win, and an also-ran who should have held the rating down even further conveniently ignored - i.e. its exactly the kind of rating that looks like it got fluffed up.
