Are any members seasoned York goers? I've never been before but I've bought my ticket for the Juddmonte in expectation of you know who running and I've added on the 'Fish n Fizz' option. What is it? I'm assuming it gives me some kind of meal at lunch time??

And can I take a 'proper' 35mm SLR Camera and a lens or two and use them freely around the paddock etc?

Camera shouldn't be a problem, but it will be busy.

Busy is an understatement. I remember being at the John Smiths the year Sirvinho won it and the place was rammed to the gills. There must have been 40,000 or more there that day.

I went to the Dante a couple of times as well and it was a completely different ball game altogether. Both thoroughly enjoyable though.

Always rammed on John Smith's day, owing to the brewery lashing out complimentary tickets. Quit trying to attend after spending one afternoon watching from a Tadcaster bookies, as we couldn't get near the track.
Comfortable most other racedays, though Frankel sure to pull an extra few thousand.

I've been up for the festival a couple of times; York is an excellent track as far as I'm concerned and well worth the journey!

Terrific track - last went to STS's International and would have loved to have gone to see Frankel but find I am on holiday !

It is a classic track and the walk is very good, with a very good fish and chips along the way

My only moan about York is the paddock, which is crap

Worth going to the inside of the track for one race; it's really good fun there. I prefer the pre parade ring to the parade ring, but they're right next to each other. It's lovely watching the horses walking round under the shadow of the trees. Used to go on Ebor day when it was on Wednesday; have got a friend who's got a house overlooking the racetrack and he spends the day on the inside of the track with all of his pals; they have a great time. He doesn't study the form at all, but seems to back Kieran Fallon a lot and seems to do quite nicely. Wish I was going this year; love the place.
