Flatties to follow 2024

Tomorrow:

Race:tote.co.uk Supporting Racing Ormonde Stakes (Group 3)
Your comment:#30 - needed his race last time and not pressed at all. Should run up to it next time.

Looked a good prospect when winning the Chester Vase here on last season's return. After a couple of lesser efforts, back on track when successful in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury prior to a find second in the St Leger. Respected with his reappearance run behind him.

Intrigued that Ryan Moore swerved Kempton and the Curragh yesterday, to ride Capulet at Chelmsford.
Clearly well thougt of, he was outpaced over this sharpish 1m and looks one to note in future, (has a Dante entry, plus both Derbys)

Justify colt who landed a Dundalk maiden (1m) on debut in August and stepped up on that when placed in pair of Group 2 events. Not at best when third behind Bracken's Laugh at Chelmsford (1m) 33 days ago but step up in trip worth exploring now and yard have a fine record in this race.

I thought Due For Luck was a tad unfortunate at Chester today (2:35). He was slowly away and the advantage of the low draw (2) was lost and became a disadvantage far back on the rails. Started challenge 1f out had to switch and finished very strongly in last 1/2f to go down by a neck and short head. A costly start.
And I backed it at 11/1. Very frustrating.

Results from above.

CAPULET - WON 7/2 - back on turf, proved suited by the step up to this trip and showed a good attitude and improved form to reverse reappearance AW placings with the runner-up. There's enough in his pedigree to think he'll stay 1m4f but he'll have to raise his game if he's to become the first to follow up in the Derby since Kris Kin. Betfair cut him to 14-1 (from 33-1) for the Epsom Classic, with the French Derby also an option.RP

ARREST - 2nd 11/4 - Arrest won last season's Vase but that was on deep ground and this big, heavy horse, who displays a pronounced knee action, was always likely to find this drying ground against him. He ran okay despite not looking in love with the track and is the sort to come into his own in the autumn. There's still a bigger effort in him.RP

Result above.

Race:Carey Group Handicap
Post comment:# 29 - Global Skies. This one is out of a STS mare yet ran over 7 1/2 last week at Beverley. Lost ground at the start and was detached from the body of the field. Finished really well and obv needs much further.

Haydock maiden winner in September. Decent third at Beverley on return/handicap bow and looks ready for the step up in trip.

Your comment:#30 - 3/4 came on the scene late on finishing best of all

Went close in a similar event over C&D last summer and bounced back to best with headgear discarded when ¾-length second of 9 to Zero Carbon in handicap at Kempton (7f) last month, having to pick way through straight. Headgear back on and he's a must for the shortlist.

€2,000,000 yearling who was an excellent 4-5 in his juvenile season, most impressive when easily landing a 1m Newmarket Group 3 in October before ending his campaign with Group 1 glory in the Futurity at Doncaster (1m, heavy). Will be suited by 1¼m. Hard to beat. starstarstarstarstar

Cracking servant to connections who has looked as good as ever this spring, runner-up on each of his last 2 starts in competitive Newmarket handicaps at up to 9f. Mark has crept up a little more ahead of this but he's the type to continue in form.starstarstar

Useful 1m/9.5f winner in Ireland for Ray Cody last summer. Changed hands for 47,000 guineas and shaped well for his new yard when third of 20 in the Lincoln at Doncaster on his return. Disappointed in Spring Cup since and another who could possibly do with the rain arriving. starstarstar
