Flatties to follow 2024

Barjon - are you interested in keeping this updated during the season - I'm of a mind to just post the horses in my tracker (added around ten during Craven week) when they run in the what I'm backing today thread.
 
Ok - I’ll keep it going. Still in Madeira until later in the week, so I’ll catch-up with it then. I’ve got a few to put in as well. I hope the combined might of TH will do better than we did over the jumps. I think I’ll just give them 3 chances this time.
 
Few of mine - mostly 3yos.
American Bay and Teraabb. Both from a Newbury handicap a week last FrIday. The latter won despite a tardy start and having to be switched, the former got no luck in running.

Arisaig. Came from the back at Newmarket, and I'd say needs 10f

Global Skies. This one is out of a STS mare yet ran over 7 1/2 last week at Beverley. Lost ground at the start and was detached from the body of the field. Finished really well and obv needs much further.

Indivar. The horse that finished third in the race that Brunel Nation was awarded in the stewards room at the Craven Meeting. Drawn standside he ended up on the far rail and did well to finish as close as he did.

Royal Supremacy. Third in the Esher Cup which despite a very small field looked a good renewal. Top trainer, this one needs further and I'd like to see him in the London Gold Cup at Newbury

Woodleigh. Came from well off the back in the slop at Ripon last week. Again, one that needs further than his opening race distance.
 
Ok - I’ve got them all in now, except Rock Hopper - post #18 - should that be Rock Opera, reet, and if it is do you want it to stand since run down the field since? I’ll put up the following as well and will add reasoning later, or as they run.

Marty The Party won in really good style at Naas tonight.His next run will be in a 200K race at Gowran on the 3rd of June.The trainer has been known to send the occasional horse to America.

ATHERSTONE WARRIOR

This one has already won after that good run in the Brocklesbury, but faces a much tougher task at Ascot 1:10 today. Weak in the market atm and probably best watched until he moves up to six furlongs.

Atherstone Warrior Green when fourth in the Brocklesby on debut and although he managed to win at Thirsk three weeks ago (5f, heavy), he was still inclined to wander around off the bridle; stable won this event 12 months ago and his proven ability on slow ground is a plus but the likelihood is he'll need a good step forward to follow up.RP

6th/6 9/1 - Atherstone Warrior, from last year's successful stable and a winner in heavy ground at Thirsk, had the rail but dropped away once he'd lost his lead.RP

Ta,BJ - I'll swerve this one owing to the different ground (g/s 7.1 this morrning) and his sire has propensity to sire horses which need cut.

Woodleigh is scheduled to run tomorrow in the 20:20 at Doncaster​

Woodleigh - Eight-race maiden; never looked dangerous on last month's seasonal debut at Ripon (6f, heavy), but kept on for a modest third and is entitled to have benefited from that outing; a possible.RP


5th/8 15/2 - Took keen hold, held up in rear, not clear run and switched right 2f out, kept on from over 1f out (tchd 17/2).

Has an entry in a valuable 9f contest at the same track in a fortnight's time and, as a Cambridgeshire winner, will likely improve for the step up.

Five-time 7f/1m winner in 2022 and went in on the July Course here last summer. Better than ever when narrowly denied by Hafeet Alain in 1m course handicap last month, looking unlucky having had to weave way through. Big player off the same mark.

2nd/13 13/2 - Dutch Decoy was off the same mark as when beaten a nose, looking an unlucky loser, over a mile here in April, so 1lb well in, and ran his race again, just outstayed.RP

Didn't kick on as expected initially as a 2-y-o but much improved and particularly strong at the finish when opening his account at Redcar (6f) in September. Easy to back, he showed promise when third on return in a C&D handicap 18 days ago and he's likely to do better again. Interesting.

Your comment:#2 - The Lincoln winner MR PROFESSOR absolutely hosed up,and will go up a fair piece for it,but is worth noting for any mile race on soft ground where there's likely to be a strong pace. Newbury Spring Cup looks the fav at the mo, as long ait fulfils the forgiung criteria.

Better than ever when winning Lincoln at Doncaster on his heavy-ground reappearance. Raised 7 lb and ground conditions unlikely to be quite so testing this time. Others preferred.

AW winner on debut in November and left that form behind when ½-length third of 6 to Folgaria (Regal Jubilee neck ahead in second) in Fred Darling at Newbury (7f, good) 15 days ago, nearest finish. Should improve again now stepping up to 1m.

WON 28/1 - ELMALKA overcame her inexperience to win on just her third start, building on the promise of her first two starts, well suited by the step up from 7f. She was well drawn as it turned out and had a good pace ahead of her, but she still did well to pick up from last, especially as she got a little unbalanced in the closing stages, outstaying the second and third. The fourth had a nightmare run through, so she might struggle to confirm form if they meet again over this trip, but Elmalka's dam is a top-level winner over 1m2f and this filly will probably want that trip before long. She may even get 1m4f and her connections might want to supplement her for the Oaks, as although she's by a speed influence in Kingman, the grand dam was second in the Epsom fillies' Classic before winning the Ribblesdale.RP

Thread comment:#14 - Elegant Man who won at Newcastle on Friday could be a beast but might need to go to another continent to be seen at his best.A late developing son of Arrogate he won a maiden at Dundalk First time out last October.He was then taken to Kempton where he finished second to yesterdays Meydan winner Rebels Romance.A win in a minor race at Dundalk was followed up with an absolute demolition job at Newcastle on Friday.
The owners are ambitious -I could see them avoiding racing on turf and having a crack at an American Grade 1 on dirt.

Promising sort. 2 wins from 2 runs this year. 11/4, career best when winning 14-runner handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 38 days ago, kept up to work. Makes turf debut. Hard to beat if as good on turf.

Quiet week. I did quite like the run of the Balding trained Hopeful (half sister to Eydon) who maybe went for home a bit early at Ponte last Thurs and was cut down by the way more experienced Barishnikov who is a fairly consistent sort. Better ground might suit as will getting this run in the tank.
 
Three from this past weekend:
Zipster. Came from the back in a slowly run event at Yarmouth.
Two Tribes and Jungle Mac. Both ran better than the bare result in sprints on the Rowley Mile.

Al Shabab Storm one to note.Ran v well from his outside draw,and was thought good enough to compete at listed leveel, last season,he should pick something up fairly soon.​

 
I thought Due For Luck was a tad unfortunate at Chester today (2:35). He was slowly away and the advantage of the low draw (2) was lost and became a disadvantage far back on the rails. Started challenge 1f out had to switch and finished very strongly in last 1/2f to go down by a neck and short head. A costly start.
