Long story short, I broke two cars in a week. My own I can handle, I also broke my fathers on Saturday going to a wedding in Dublin. Had to be taken to a local garage. Coby Motors, Naas Rd. (Anyone Know them?)

Phonecall this morning to say its a problem with camshaft and tower, and will cost over a grand to fix, and will be next week before its done.

My options are pony up the dough, or maybe go up with a trailer and bring it home to another mechanic?? Is it expensive? Has anyone had this problem with their own car? Tis a knew one on me.

Its a 06 Opel Astra, 1.4 Petrol.

I used to know a very mediocre mechanic who was absolutely brilliant at sniffing out parts in salvage yards. It always worked out much cheaper and usually more reliable.

Probably not much use to you at the moment, especially since I can't recommend anyone, but maybe it will point you in the right direction for sourcing a solution to your future automotive needs.

Spoke to my mechanic today and he thought price was very very high - if thats any help but didn't give a figure.
