I took my chance on Adjuvant Each Way at 12/1 before the five day confirmations on Monday.

I think he is improving. That form with HMS President was well advertised at Royal Ascot last week, when HMS was a close second against a good horse of Joseph O Briens.

Even Adjuvants subsequent win over Pons Aelius has held up form-wise with that horse winning next time up.

The third horse home that time at Newmarket, Saratoga Gold, was unlucky to unseat at York next time out, so could have won the race if that hadn't happend. Saratoga Gold was charging up riderless at the end. I couldn't help but feel he would have franked the Newmarket form even further.

I'm happy with the wager I have on Adjuvant as things stand. Billy Loughnane is booked to ride to take off 3 lbs which could aid a big run from him.

I also remember the last decent wager I placed on a winner of this historic event, when I was on the track about 15 years ago backing another Michael Bell trained winner called Juniper Girl.

Hence, fingers crossed this is a good omen for me!

Trainer Michael Bell has been in the Racing Post talking about Adjuvant. I can see he reckons Adjuvant 'dodged a bullet' by not making the cut for the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot, and I couldn't agree more, as Vauban hacked up like a Group One horse.

The link is attached below, although I couldn't read it fully, as I am not a subscriber.

Here it is...

Michael Bell is hoping to land another valuable prize just a week after his surprise Royal Ascot success when he saddles his first runner in more than a decade in Saturday's Jenningsbet Northumberland Plate.

The Derby-winning trainer celebrated a 20-1 victory with Burdett Road in last Saturday's Golden Gates Stakes, but was thankful recent scorer Adjuvant failed to make the cut for his own target at the royal meeting, with the four-year-old second favourite for the £150,000 handicap (2.05) at Newcastle.

"We were hoping to get into the Copper Horse Stakes but it looks like we might have dodged a bullet with how that race played out," Bell said when reflecting on the impressive triumph of Vauban at Ascot.

"Adjuvant is very well though, and this race came on to our radar quickly. It'll be his first time on the all-weather but he's been to Chelmsford for a racecourse gallop and loved the surface, plus we train most of the time at Newmarket on the Polytrack. There's no concern there, he's very comfortable on it, so we're really looking forward to Saturday."

The general 7-1 chance will be Bell's first runner in the race since 2009, when it was still held on turf and his runner The Betchworth Kid finished ninth, two years after his sole success in the race with Juniper Girl.

"Time does fly," he said. "It's amazing – I can't believe our last runner was so long ago.

"The Betchworth Kid ran in 2009, we had a favourite in the race called Highland Legacy who came last in 2008 and we won the year before. It's been mixed fortunes, but it's a lovely race to take part in and great to have a runner in it again."

Juniper Girl's victory in 2007 was aided by then-claimer Luke Morris and this year Bell will rely on another flourishing talent in Billy Loughnane, who takes off 3lb and was denied by just a neck on his sole ride on Adjuvant at last month's Guineas meeting.

Bell said: "For a race like this over two miles, a claimer can translate to four lengths in theory. Billy rode a treble at the track last time he was there, so clearly he likes the track a lot.

"There's a lot of luck in it, you need a good draw and your runner needs to be given a good ride, and Billy is giving plenty of horses good rides at the moment. It can only be a help."

About to start working my way through the race but in the Vase I've just taken 10/1 La Hacienda (4 places). I can't see that price holding once punters get a proper look at the race themselves and I'd expect some influential people to put it up. Should arguably be favourite and I'll be very surprised if it doesn't go blue through the course of today.

This thread has been quiet. This is an intriguing race this year I feel. There's a few different angles. The fav is interesting. A market mover and former John Gosden trained horse. Golden Rules has been off the track for ages then wins a class 3 at Kempton, yet could still be on a steep upward curve.

I've been with Adjuvant all week and maybe he can go close to winning at a bare minimum. Hopefully the old saying 'you can't keep a good man down' rings true here for me punting wise in this race.

I think the problem with this renewal, Marb, is that it wouldn't be surprising to see any one of 15 win it! But yours definitely looks to have very sound claims, so - unless DO can shed some more light - Adjuvant is the one I'll be cheering with small interest in good old Sir Chauvelin and Themaxwecan.

I think Law of the Sea has run very solid races the last three times and was a tad unlucky in the Chester Cup.

Golden Rules Is very lightly raced and couId be on a steep curve, at least that’s what the betting is suggesting, but I’m not really seeing it and I’m not at all sure he should be favourite let alone as short as he is, and you have to wonder why Oppenheimer and the Gosdens would get rid of him. Vino Victrix disappointed for me in the Chester Cup so I’m curious that they’ve held on to him for this. He’s a bet to justify my faith in him then. I’ve taken 16/1 to six places. I’ll use Law Of The Sea and Calling The Wind to cover all my bets but he’s [ie LOTS] had a few races in a fairly short time so a bounce is in the offing although the first-time cheek pieces suggest they think he hasn’t been putting it all in. Small bets on Sir Chauvelin and Berkshire Rocco are in order for me and I wouldn’t be in the least surprised if Themaxwecan popped up here at massive odds. You just never know when the Johnston horses are going to do their thing. But it tends to be when big money is on offer so I’m not letting this one go unbacked.

I've bet Post Impressionist (15/2)- trained for the race;right age, right profile, and the man on board capable of negating his poor draw.

I do like Nathanael Greene on his running on 4th, beaten 5L or so by Courage Mon Brave, the Gold Cup winner, at goodwood. As ever, the question is: will he stay? If he does, that form wins this, surely.

I’m sorry to say I like the look of that one, too.

Well done D. And Faylaq ran another good race for 3rd.cant complain.

Nicely :D

Edit - yes, and Faylaq the saver more than paid for itself. Covered heavy losses on the Shadwell nag at Newmarket.

First places go to a low draw. That’s thrown out most of my fancies for the next race.

Cheers, all.

I mentioned not long ago that my figures were doing well (even if I wasn't!) and this race was no exception.

Lovely winner, mate but bloody hell Faylaq went on a tour of Northumbria to get his run and surely must have won if the split(s) had come, don't you reckon?

Still Haciens'a jock got te possie and won the race.

Well done. :)
