This race has had a few names over the years - Yellow Pages in the 1970s is the earliest I can remember.

Anyway, bit early to start a thread maybe, but it is an early closer and I think the race might have acquired a new significance today as I've read it's the target for Iroko.

He will run off 152, same as at Aintree, and I've a feeling we might finally see what he can really do over fences in this race.

He's already 4/1 favourite for this and even that is evaporating in many books.

That's the race - in fact the only time I ever attended the meeting was when I was at the RP and, as sponsors, they secured free tickets and a private box for staff - Ian loves a freebie! 😂

Remittance Man won the Pendil that day.

However, I digress.

Your beast is back on a winning mark imo, and is a bigger price, but he and all of them might be chasing shadows if the real Iroko rocks up.

Haven't looked at the race this year but used to be a superb race. I always remember on a forum I was on a guy popped up who'd hardly ever posted. Went under the user name of Birmingham speedway abruptly said I've had 600 quid win on Nacarat think he was about 10/1 and he duly bounded up.

Other great memories from the race was Gloria victus's finest moment when bolting up off a mark of 150 something leaving Malborough another decent sort in his wake and recorded one of the highest figures I've ever seen for a novice on just his 4th start for Martin pipe. Sadly he was a fatality in the Gold cup after that but always sticks with me on a very short list of the greats that never were.

There are a couple more of them but can't be wasting too much ink on a thread where I'm on ignore from the current participants.

There's more than just them reading your thoughts Danny. ;)

If that's the race that used to be the Racing Post Trophy then I reckon Flegmatik is already past the post.

I'm kicking myself a wee bit about this one.

I was certain ahead of yesterday's G1 that he was there to run out the back of the TV ahead of this race with the likelihood that his price would lengthen and so he did. I had the option to cash out for no loss but decided just to let it ride in case he actually ran well.

Today the cash out offer is for half my stake and he is out to 25/1 with B365. I'm letting my two bets at 12/1 ride and have gone back in again, ew this time, at 25/1.

If it turns up with Skelton up he wins. This is Langer Dan stuff.

RP analysis of the Ascot Chase didn’t even bother to mention Flegmatic :p. There’s this poor bugger at Clonmel banned for God knows how long for not trying whilst the Skeltons just play ducks and drakes with the rule without a murmur.

No need for the stewards to look. He was outclassed on the ratings and 125/1 the night before. He just had to run round to confirm he was out of his depths.

Running in a Grade 1 can ruin a mark if you finish too close, or protect a mark if you're, say, and to take a random margin, beaten 45.75l. 😂

25/1 with bet 365 looks a huge price if he lines up👍🏻

No, not this time - but I’d still be surprised if he ran “fully up to his merits”

Just clocked the field. Not best pleased but clearly a problem with the horse after all. Connections have Heltenham in. Can't believe he's anywhere near Flegmatik's level but they're the ones in the know.

Heltenham 16/1 with the books and 21 to very small money on the machine.

Lowry’s Bar was taken out of the Reynoldstown last Saturday “vets certificate”. Looks like he’s made a miracle recovery :) for this one instead. Good chance, maybe.
