What are you watching

Staying at my daughters next week She has Netflix. If I can work out how to use the tv I can watch American Primevil.

I've started this, it certainly isn't for the faint hearted!
Hopefully, if I can negotiate my daughter’s tv I’ll start watching it tonight. Currently watching House of the Dragon. What I like about it is that, like GOT’s there’s not a lot of use of blue/green screen etc. I always watch the special features feature that shows how they filmed everything, the locations, special effects. I’m glad that they use the same music. Even though I was bitterly disappointed by the last couple of episodes of GOT’s (I’ve never rewatched it, and I used to watch every series several times) I still, when HOTD starts, get that feeling of anticipation that I felt watching GOT’s when I thought it was the best thing I’d ever seen. Bryan Forbes filmed at a house I was living in and ever since I’ve been fascinated to see what goes on behind the scenes. Unfortunately the films budget ran out ( they hadn’t taken into account the Cornish weather) and the film was scrapped so I never got to see what the house would have looked like. I thought I might get discovered but I couldn’t even get a job making the tea.( thank goodness there are only 6 episodes of AP as I had a list of things I wanted to do whilst at my daughters: paperwork etc but I’m going to binge watch it tonight. Annoyingly only found out how to add subtitles part way through episode 2 as my hearing isn’t too good. I’m totally gripped by it although I don’t think it surpasses The English. If I could afford Netflix etc I’d never get anything done and I think I would grow roots into the sofa).
Last episode. So invested in some of these characters I’m scared to watch it. Blimey it’s good!
Finished it. Am now emotionally drained. So good…

Just started watching the new thing on Disney + “A Thousand Blows” meant to be the next Peaky Blinders ( that I never watched!) I’m on episode 2 and it’s ok.

Gave up on the other thing - even James Marsden couldn’t make it watchable!!!

It had a good write up on Must Watch. Another thing to watch when my son stays with us. I’m really into House of the Dragon and may rewatch season one. Didn’t realise there are two more seasons though. At least, unlike GOT’s I can read the book and find out what happens at the end.

I’ve heard lots of good things about it - certainly so far I quite like it.
I’ve only watched two GOT and wasn’t my cup of tea. Wouldn’t go with house of the dragon because of that really, but I might one day.
Feel like I need to give The Witcher a go because if nothing else Henry Cavill is just beautiful. I saw a clip of it the other day and it wasn’t what I expected at all, so I’m quite prepared to try it now.

I loved GOT’s till they messed up the last series. House of the Dragon isn’t as good but at least it remains true to itself. What I do like is the amount of detail that goes into each episode; the clothing, lighting, special effects etc. I watch the making of extras and then rewatch the episodes. They don’t use a lot of green screen etc. They even developed a whole language which the actors have to learn to speak. I quite like Outlander, too.

Half way through it -Great show.
I binge watched ( well, I had to because I was only at my daughters fora couple of day but I would have done anyway; I was totally immersed in it). I’m now watching 1883 but it’s so light weight in comparison. Really grateful that it was recommended on here…

Me too -I think it is a little bit special.Watching final episode tonight.

Just watched all four episodes of a documentary on BBC called 11 Minutes. It’s about the largest mass shooting that has ever happened in America, in Las Vegas in 2017. Not for the faint hearted I must point out but, like a lot of documentaries it draws you in. What I don’t understand is that I don’t remember it happening, and neither does Mike. And yet we’d stayed in that area a few years prior to that, so I would have thought that we would have discussed it at the time. The killer took many guns and rifles into a hotel overlooking a country and western concert and, in 11 minutes had killed 58 people and injured ( badly injured, that is) over 800 more before shooting himself. I do remember discussions about the fact that guns could be converted into automatic weapons with a device that was then ( I assume) banned. What I also don’t understand is that most of the people interviewed that had either been injured or had lost loved ones seemed to think it was a social problem and, although they campaigned to ban the sale of the converter, still thought that guns were necessary to protect people and that this sort of thing would still happen but, if the weapons weren’t automatic, not as many people would be killed. The whole thing is totally beyond my comprehension. What did stand out were the interviews with first responders who ran towards the danger to save people, and that some of them, instead of feeling proud that they’d saved lives, still berated themselves for the lives they didn’t save. I know I would never be that brave. I wonder if the whole thing was rather swept under the carpet at the time?

what trilogy????...I tried watccng Dune again....bloody awful movie
I’ve given the film another go. Instead of trying to understand what was happening I just decided to watch it as a visual spectacle ( and Timothy Chalamet is watchable in anything, even that aftershave advert he did was pretty good). Can’t say I would have enjoyed watching it at a cinema, though, but watching it in the comfort of my home with a cup of tea was quite acceptable. Actually want to watch the second film, now.

I’m introducing Sophie to the Pirates of the Caribbean films today, finally persuaded her to give the first one a go and halfway through I got “mummy, you were right - I do like this” and we’re now on number 2 ( at her request !) I call this a result 😁

Went to watch episode 5 last night and realised that it was a 4 parter. I thought it was going to be epic after episode 1 but it doesn't come anywhere close to the hype that surrounds it.

Started watching Jack Irish on Ch4 last night but gave up as I need subtitles these days and couldn’t get them to work on my tv. However, they do work on my iPad so I’m going to watch it on that. I’ve always been a great fan of Guy Pearce, the best thing to have come out of Neighbours imo, and I don’t think he’s ever made a bad movie or series. What made me decide to persevere with it is that in it he plays a debt collector and he’s just been given a racehorse so there’s going to be a racing sub plot. I sometimes listen to Australian racing on the radio ( especially round Melbourne Cup time).

Jack Irish is good - we watch that :)
Does racing feature much in episode one? I just got to the bit where he’s been to see the mad horse. I only found out about it because I was watching season two of my favourite comedy from the other year, The Change, and a trailer for it came on. I love Guy Pearce!

I've watched all three parts of a Star Sports Betting People Interview with author Chris Pitt on YouTube. He said that his book - A Long Time Gone ( on closed racecourses ) took around seven years to write. Another titled Go Down to the Beaten concentrates on the stories of the jockeys who didn't win the Grand National ending with AP McCoy's victory on Don't Push It. Its title comes from the John Masefield poem ' Right Royal', and the book was mentioned on grandnationalanorak.com/books-on-the-national as " the greatest book ever written about the Grand National".
