What are you backing Today? Part 2

Thanks Dingo. I managed to bag another decent priced winner on an each way yankee to go alongside Qirat, so that was a nice boost. I was chuffed for Simmo too, because if he seriously ever follows any of my selections, he was due this win, if not some proper professional help!

Good luck with yours today.

I'm having a go at the placepot/jackpot at Goodwood, not a regular bet of mine by any means, but I'll have a go.

Goodwood

1.20 Fort George
1.55 Egoli
2.20 Wimbledon Hawkeye
3.05 Bedtime Story
3.45 Getreadytorumble
4.20 Amazing Journey

Lots of luck needed, and I may fall flat on my face, but hopefully worth the four pounds entry fee.

lol. My practice is to take note of what's written here and if it resonates with me then I'll back them - but I think you do yourself a dis-service, I've seen some of your winners!

Away from alll the main action today I have had a small EW on Emerald Countess @100/1 in the 11.50 Vaal ( SA ) , may well run better than the odds suggest. Fingers crossed for a place.

Well done, TFT. I haven't been looking, but that's one you won't forget. Closest I've ever come was Jason Weaver riding a debutant 25+ years ago at Lingfield at 150's. I hesitated for ages in my local Ladbrokes, left it and it went in at 150's (and I still remember that vividly even though I wasn't on). 66's has been my biggest. Nice one. (y)

Thursday

GOODWOOD 5:30 PRINCIPALITY 25/1 EW
I managed to get 25/1 on the TAB (only 4 places though) and 8/1 for the place. UK books generally 22's. 365 ducking.
Medium stakes.

GOODWOOD 1:20 MAGELLAN CLOUD 40/1 EW
Small stakes.

Also had a small win double.

Wishing everyone a glorious day.

Top bombing Chris waking up to a nice winner there mate.

Back in the gutter today at Newcastle.
NEWC 5:07 ALMUTRAF 16/1 EW (Hills 18's, 365 taking no chances).
Spotted it LTO, over a trip too far on ground too soft. became very distracted (or intimidated) by the crowd. Was hoping for some headgear, not to be.
However, did show a little gear change before distraction, but was never going to pick up at the trip/going. Drop back in distance looks sure to suit. Is also a CD winner, and only 1lb higher. That race wasn't much, even after considering the class. However, I think Almutraf could be progressive. Was a late foal and didn't race until late last year, didn't do much at 2. Has come back better as a 3yo though. Perhaps hasn't enjoyed running right handed either (Beverley/Kempton)? Has a nice draw today. Looks worthy of an EW dabble. Small to medium stakes. If it had been a class 4, I'd be medium stakes, but looks worthy of a little more than just small stakes.

Had considered Thursdays Child (in book), but again on the AW, but at Southwell. Not the type of race I've been waiting for with that one and at the price I'm happy to give it a swerve this time. Hopefully it's beaten.

Well I was right to swerve Thursday Child, but wrong to get involved with Almutraf.

GALWAY 5:35 REIDH 7/2 EW (got a 5% bonus with TAB)
Unusual for me to go for one this short these days, but in notebook and hasn't gone over there for nothing.

RIPON 5:38 ROUNDHAY PARK

Getting one last chance from me.
If it doesn't win this, I think it'll be retired, this might be it's last race anyway. Would be nice to see it finish with one last win at it's favourite CD.
Yard not in form, but not too concerned about that with Roundhay Park. Had to take 6/1 and use the amusement arcade multiplier gimmick, which beefed it up to around 13/2.

C'mon Roundhay !!!
2 weeks on from his “farewell” victory, he’s back for more in the 5.20 Doncaster.

Not a race that holds a lot of interest for me, but I hope the old boy runs well.

Did you notice Fahey had a 40 /1 winner at Galway.

No I hadn't. I don't look at results from IRE and this will be the first bet I've had on Irish racing for years, well over a decade I would say.

Ground looks too fast for Roundhay Park. He's hardly on the comeback trial. Has gone well at Doncaster off way higher marks, but I think the Ripon race should have been his last run. He doesn't owe anyone a thing, let the old boy chill out.

One of my noted is running in France (Golden Ocean). Up into pattern class, but might not be an impossible task. What the others have done I have no idea. I thought about a small bet at the forecast 16's, just in case, but nowhere near those odds available. It would have been a small bet too, as i was startign to feel like a pinsticker just thinkign about placign any kind of bet.

Are you giving Pisanello another go today, Outsider? Sure to pop in at some point, CD could be OK, but I've given up with the thing.

It'll be another decade before I touch Irish racing. It's not that I have anything against it, but it's always meant double the workload.
What a shocking run for a 2/1 fav though. Had been feeling confident for the place after the support. Again NR's took it down to 15, so only 3 places with the TAB (not that it mattered).
Golden Ocean was a NR in France and non of my other unbacked noted runners were placed, so at least that's something.

Have 2 running today, both in the Chester 4:22 (a claiming race). Chalk Mountain and Spirit Genie.
A forecast splash of rain this morning and cloudy this afternoon, the ground could be genuine GD by racetime. I'm very undecided between the pair. First time visor for Spirit genie, which would ideally prefer slightly slower ground over 1/2 a furlong less. Likewise I noted Chalk Mountain not getting a mile and needing a galloping and testing 7, so 7.5 around the doughnut 'might' be OK regarding distance/stamina requirments. I never get any luck at Chester and going against Ravich feels somewhat folly anyway.
Would need to be small stakes, absolute minimum, so will probably pass and hope they're both well beaten (especially chalk Mountain, who could ideally do with another 1lb or two coming off).

Are you ditching Pisanello yet, Outsider? I see Rhythm Master finally found a race where everything fell right, though the odds wouldn't have covered my loses if I'd continued giving it chances.
