Elbow in Thetford Forest June 2017I haven't been to many gigs, but the best I've seen would be a toss up between Pink Floyd Earls Court '95 and the full day Oasis gig at Loch Lomond in '96.
Wow Archie! I sat up when I saw 1962 then saw Eagles 1977 & thought no it was '75 then realised I saw them at Wembley Stadium (midsummer madness) whereas you saw them at the Arena. Also Bruce, saw him 3 weeks before you but at the Manchester Apollo.Del Shannon - Manchester Apollo 1962
Beach Boys - Birmingham 1966
Simon & Garfunkel - Birmingham 1967
Neil Young - Royal Festival Hall 1971
Byrds - Albert Hall 1971
Manassas (Steve Stills) - Rainbow 1972
Wings - Wembley Arena 1976
Eagles - Wembley Arena 1977 (Hotel California tour)
Btuce Springsteen - Wembley Arena 1981 (The River tour)
Jackson Browne - Manchester 2014
Brian Wilson - Liverpool 2016 (Pet Sounds 50th anniversary)
Don Henley - Manchester 2016
If pushed for one, probably Springsteen.
I have to respect a gig before I was even born.Del Shannon - Manchester Apollo 1962
Wasn't my first gig. I saw the Shadows at the same venue a few months before. In those days there were a whole series of acts on a bill and the lead act only played a few numbers. I've still got the programme for the Rolling Stones in Birmingham in 1965 and apart from the Stones the list of performers isI have to respect a gig before I was even born.
This seems to have evolved into lists of gigs people have been to - I'll have a bit of THAT....
From 74 to 94 I lived in North Wembley, Northwood Hills and St Albans so I was well placed for Wembley gigs although I never did one at the stadium. Likewise, for 6 months in 70/71 we had a flat opposite Highbury stadium which was a handy 20 minute stroll from the Rainbow in Finsbury Park allowing me to go along on spec if I was at a loose end.Wow Archie! That's an impressive list though.
Yes, the Beach Boys were sensational that day archie. Unfortunately I still bore for England on my recollections of the day. From 74 to 94 I lived in North Wembley, Northwood Hills and St Albans so I was well placed for Wembley gigs although I never did one at the stadium. Was the 75 Eagles gig the one where the Beach Boys wowed a whole new audience? A friend (who went on to become a junior minister in the first Blair government and now sits in the Lords) had tickets and stayed at my place in Northwood Hills. He said it was a brilliant day's entertainment but, unfortunately, I had to work and missed out.
