You may not have realised it Barnestormer but imo a fine idea for a thread - I give you mine

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes Leeds Uni 1979 beating Free 1969 at the same venue by a short head

I haven't been to many gigs, but the best I've seen would be a toss up between Pink Floyd Earls Court '95 and the full day Oasis gig at Loch Lomond in '96.

Saw many good sets at The Cherry Hinton Folk Festival........Kathryn Tickell, The Saw Doctors, Chas And Dave, Fairground Attraction (even managed to get my daughter backstage for that performance) Runrig, Afro Celt Sound System........also Ray Davies top slot on a Sunday afternoon but was disappointing.

David Byrne’s American Utopia tour in 2018 was brilliant. There were no wires or cables, the musicians and singers all wore the same suits and danced and moved around the stage in choreographed formations. The music mainly consisted of fresh versions of his best stuff.

By the way the tour had almost nothing to do with the disappointing album of the same name.

Wow Archie! I sat up when I saw 1962 then saw Eagles 1977 & thought no it was '75 then realised I saw them at Wembley Stadium (midsummer madness) whereas you saw them at the Arena. Also Bruce, saw him 3 weeks before you but at the Manchester Apollo.

That's an impressive list though.

I have to respect a gig before I was even born.

This seems to have evolved into lists of gigs people have been to - I'll have a bit of THAT....

Girlschool, Wellington (Welly) Club, Hull 1980
Motörhead, St George's Hall, Bradford, 1980
Ozzy Osbourne, Blizzard Of Oz, Hull City Hall, 1981
Dedringer, some Hull dive, 1981
Iron Maiden, Hull City Hall, 1981
Saxon, Hull City Hall, 1981
Rush, Bingley Hall, 1981
Motley Crue, Warwick University Students Union, 1982
Judas Priest, somewhere in Birmingham, 1983
Nitzer Ebb, The Astoria, London 1990
Front242, Town & Country Club, Kentish Town, London, 1990
Sheep On Drugs, somewhere in NW London, 1990
Gary Numan, Camden Town, London, 1990
Lydia Lunch, New Cross, South London, 1991
Miranda Sex Garden, North London Poly, 1992
Ministry Brixton Academy, 1992
The Orb, Brixton Academy, 1993
Frontline Assembly, The Astoria, 1994
Killing Joke, Shepherd's Bush Empire, 1995

I'm just getting started - will keep returning to this post and adding to it (though possibly not the most shameful ones on what is already a shameful list) with edits until it breaks the internet....

Wasn't my first gig. I saw the Shadows at the same venue a few months before. In those days there were a whole series of acts on a bill and the lead act only played a few numbers. I've still got the programme for the Rolling Stones in Birmingham in 1965 and apart from the Stones the list of performers is
Spencer Davis Group
Charles Dickens and the Habits
The Checkmates
The End
Unit 4 + 2

My gig list is stored on a site called setlist.fm and is far longer than the favourites listed earlier.

From 74 to 94 I lived in North Wembley, Northwood Hills and St Albans so I was well placed for Wembley gigs although I never did one at the stadium. Likewise, for 6 months in 70/71 we had a flat opposite Highbury stadium which was a handy 20 minute stroll from the Rainbow in Finsbury Park allowing me to go along on spec if I was at a loose end.
Was the 75 Eagles gig the one where the Beach Boys wowed a whole new audience? A friend (who went on to become a junior minister in the first Blair government and now sits in the Lords) had tickets and stayed at my place in Northwood Hills. He said it was a brilliant day's entertainment but, unfortunately, I had to work and missed out.

Yes, the Beach Boys were sensational that day archie. Unfortunately I still bore for England on my recollections of the day.
