The Will Win Thread

Noted Robi. But I still have faith in this thing and I think the ground thing might be exaggerated. We'll see.

His best run this year is on good ground. His best run at 2 was on good to firm. Can someone please explain to me how the ground is a concern?

They really fancied him last time. They think they have him back. With Lasix and 7/1 on offer, this is a no brainer.
I'm certainly not ruling him out completely. Stable pulled it of with the much maligned Order of Australia at big odds recently. Just think with the issues he's had, he not value enough for me.

He's a Group 1 horse priced like he's a bust. He's the definition of value. Lasix could be the key to him.

Not that i pay much attention but aren't half the horses that run out there on Lasix ? If so it negates any advantage.

Plus he got beat by Cicercos Gift who is a shithouse and had never run a race on gd ground before Ascot.

In the name of Jesus, how does other horses being on Lasix negate the effect it can have on a horse with leg troubles? It’s not a zero-sum game.

Lasix is a blood thinner isn't it ? and I thought his troubles were with his feet ? I thought the advantages of being on lasix were it allowed the heart to pump blood to the muscles faster ? Its a long time ago since I even heard anyone talk of Lasix probably back when Wes ward brought over Strike the tiger and Jealous again over to win at Royal Ascot tbh.

You’re overcomplicating it. I’m not talking about what Lasix technically does in the bloodstream, I’m talking about impact. A horse with leg issues is more likely to benefit from reduced pressure and inflammation, whether you call it blood-thinning or not. The point is simple: other horses being on it doesn’t cancel out that advantage.

I see Slim's logic.

Danny, you and me are facing off in a 400 metre race.

I'm sound as a bell but you've got physical issues.

Painkillers are available to both of us.

They can benefit you enormously as they enable you to race painless and freely, but they're no help to me as I don't have any pain that needs alleviating.

I think that's the point?

Fair enough im not that deeply invested in the argument just didnt really get the logic.

Either way he still got beat by a poor horse last time out. If he can win a breeders cup mile after being done by Ciceros Gift then he's made me a believer and I'll guarentee I'll be putting a syringe full of lasix into my arse cheek before the Breeders cup draws to a close.

P.s Ian it feels like your taking sides amongst ypur favourite children.
Not in the slightest!

Anyway, my you v me hypothetical 400m match is rendered academic anyway, because, regardless of whether we can both be on Lasix, with one benefitting more than the other, it's a bigger certainty than death and taxes that the eventual winner will be the one Walsworth's laid for his max.

And the moral of that story is: Next time Walsworth loses his shirt and asks to borrow one, if you agree, never ask for it back as he's liable to have tucked it into his underpants.

I'm with Danny -I can't have TLIW winning a Grade 1 mile on an American track.
I don't necessarily fancy The Lion In Winter - I just see the logic of how Lasix could help him and the equal availability of it to horses who maybe haven't got his issues doesn't diminish its benefit to him.

I get the angle but I think his best form this year has been over a straight mile -I can't see him being able to handle Del Mar regardless of the chemical assistance.
