I know I’m probably miles behind the pace, but I’ve just asked ChatGPT to analyse a horse race for me. “Sure” it said “put up a photo of the race card”. I did that and it came back in seconds with reams of analysis and comment and a final conclusion for a safe bet, a value bet and a risky bet. If they come in I’ll be hanging up my boots.

Try it.

What did it pick.im not capable of doing it myself.

I think those who aren't miles behind the pace already have tried it tbh.

I can't code to save my life, but my best friend (who can but cba to do more work than he has to) wrote one of the most effective data models I ever had to my specifications using AI in literally ten minutes a few years back

Sounds like a lad from the bookies.

I’ve tried it. I can confirm that it doesn’t work. Offers too many options; lacks conviction.
Maybe you weren't asking it the right questions.

Or using it the right way.

My friend didn't ask it who would win a horse race, or was the best value at a set of odds.

He used it to write the code for him on a program to a spec we'd already determined for ourselves.

And tbf it did a job - it's not doing nearly as well as it did last year (the market constantly changes) but it's still making money (though painfully slowly now).

AI definitely has its uses in the betting sphere.

It's a personal assistant. When AI takes over the world, I just hope it doesn't take into account how I sometimes speak to it.

This is interesting, thank you.

If you don’t fully understand your subject, be careful when critiquing AI. It’s capable of getting even basic maths wrong — but used properly, it’s a massive net positive. The key is to let it help you, not guide you.

I am 60 this year been betting since I was 15 and the best form to go by is what you see with your own eyes.

As you know I look into an AI site everyday and it is not for me, it hardly ever gives a 10/1 or bigger as the main selection far too many 1st 2nd or 3rd favs for me sure me granny can pick them and she knows feck all about racing.

I’ve been having a play - not interested in the prediction side of things, since it spoils all the run. The post race analyses are promising though, but Sim’s warning is very apposite .

I asked how Count Of Vendome had jumped the last today. Told me he cleared it well, but faded on the run in. Wasn’t what saw so I said “are you sure” - changed his (her?)(its?) mind with more evidence and decided he hadn’t been fluent and it has cost him the race (which is what I saw) .

I'd assumed your bumper posts were AI-generated, Lucky. Was that an incorrect assumption?

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger! I wish I’d never poked my nose in. Of course I like to win, but my greater satisfaction comes because it’s ME doing the winning.

Reminds me of my other passion - birdwatching. My shelves groaned with identification guides as I struggled to name what I was seeing. Over the years the knowledge they contained got transferred to my brain and they became somewhat superfluous. It gave me great satisfaction that I could identify most of the birds I saw on field trips. Nowadays that too has bitten the dust, all you do is point your ‘phone at it and your ‘phone tells you what it is - where’s the satisfaction in that.

I hear you but I'm more than willing to give AI women a chance.
