Jan Brueghel out of Melbourne Cup

Land Legend was one of my noted horses after his run in the King George V handicap at Royal Ascot in '23. Full brother Justus won over 2m. I have to do him, don't I?

I've taken Zardozi (12/1, top on RPRs and a Godolphin in a handicap).

And 150/1 Knights Choice (third top on RPRs but never raced beyond 12f before) so a total stab.

Yeah. KC's breeding suggests that stamina would be an issue here, eh? In truth, I see the same issue with Zardozi but of course I hope they run well. It's all a bit 'guessy'; don't know my arse from my elbow. As you say: "Total stab."

The Melbourne Cup - full of locally-trained horses who have never raced over 2m, aren't bred to stay, but at least one of them usually does.

I'd want to a better reason to be setting my alarm for 4am, frankly.

Like Knight's Choice, 90/1 SP locally.

Every year the UK racing media gives excruciating chapter and verse on this contest and every year, I just think: "why?"

To perpetuate the myth anyone outside Australia cares about the race, probably, so they might get sent on a jolly to it.

That was outrageous ; some win and back story.
Go Robbie !
Just watched it now.I'm an Aussie racing fan and I remember a few years ago Robbie was interviewed after a big Saturday winner and said -my father's neighbours at home will definitely know I've ridden a winner.

Ten years on from Max Dynamite I can still remember how drained I was going back to bed at 4:20.

Yeah, bar the thread title reading, 'Jan Brueghel out of Melbourne Cup, and here's the 150/1 winner', it doesn't get any better than that, really well done, DO, pleased for you and your followers.

Well done!!
Weirdly, me and the other half had a brief chat about him but it was directly before the off, so too late to do anything other than watch him. So pleased for them 😁

Cheers, Marb. Not sure anybody 'followed' me on that one, though!
I'm sure someone did.

I may have had 2 quid each way on myself, but I don't bet online anymore.

I woke up without even setting my alarm at 3.55am, which I couldn't do even if I'd tried, then tried to watch the race on several different bookmaker sites but had no joy.

I think you needed Sky Sports to watch that or a monthly AtTheRaces subscription.

As I say, pleased for you. Enjoy the moment.

I didn’t follow you although I did back Zardozi because she was described as ‘staying on’ in her previous races. And Zardoz is a favourite film of mine. But the winner scored 14/15 on the OLBG Melbourne Cup page. The highest scorer was the one that they wouldn’t allow to run so I couldn’t back it.Buckaroo scored 15/15 but wasn’t much of a price so I backed all 3 of the horses that got 14/15 and thankfully Knights Choice was one of them. How, looking at its form, it scored 14/15 or, even more puzzling had the same RPR as Buckaroo is totally beyond me. It also had one of the five most winning draws in the race. Having said that the horse that came second by a whisker scored 7/15 and had a much lower RPR. I usually back your long shots and I would have been sick as a parrot if I’d missed that one, especially as my betting account was down to £1.50.
