The 2025 Royal Hunt Cup (Handicap)

Ryan Moore rides šŸ˜‚

Is that for definite?

It does have all the hallmarks of a plot but plenty of other operations are capable of getting one in with a stone and more in hand.

Godolphin managed to get Real World into the race a few years back off something like 94 and within two months it was running in the Strensall with an OR of 116 and by the following March was off 124 in Dubai.

If Jamie Spencer can see his way clear to starting his run from the back a touch earlier than the following Thursday morning, Ancient Rome might just do something in this, Maurice. šŸ˜‚

The fact that Spencer is already booked is a positive for me. The Hays tend to seek him out when they really like one.

I'm not convinced Ancient Rome will win but I'm surprised he's still 100/1.

I reckon I'll have three or four others onside on the day.

OLIVER SHOW
Winner of four of his 17 starts and currently rated 99. Finished runner-up, beaten a nose, to Godwinson in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster (1m) in March off a mark of 95.

He will have an entry in the Buckingham Palace as well as the Hunt Cup and the preference would be the Buckingham Palace at the moment. He was very unlucky in the Lincoln after spending the winter in Bahrain and was the winner with five yards to go. He was chinned on the line and is a strong travelling horse and I think he will impress in whichever race he goes for.

I thought the horse which finished second in the Lincoln might have a chance in the Royal Hunt Cup, but had to go back through the results on the Racing Post website to refresh myself with its name. The above was found under drf.com/news/george-boughey-stable-tour dated 11/6/2025, and Oliver Show has been kept fresh for next week ( now 4 pounds higher ).

Shall we stick all Wednesday's card/fancies in this thread rather than opening a new one.

I'm on Anmaat ante-post in the POW. Rationale at the time of the bet was Economics would be having his first race of the season in this, a negative. And also that the short straight wouldn't suit Los Angeles. That horse kind of got first run on Anmaat in the Curragh race and I fancy a reversal.

My other fancy on day two is Fallen Angel at 4s in the Duke of Cambridge. She escapes a penalty for this and I can forgive her run in the Lockinge given that her owners really prioritise Ascot so she likely needed it. The Godolphin filly who heads the market hasn't the same level of form and carries a penalty.

My cliff horse - he landed the odds for me at Goodwood a couple of years ago. Now gelded (couple of so so runs in Meydan) plus a wind op, he didn't look off a yard last time. Odds seem a bit silly to me? Rose tinted specs probably but Spencer suits him.

I couldn’t recall if it was this one or another of the Hays’s you liked, jinnyj. It’s got back class and not by any means beyond connections to plot it up for something like this.

Ancient Rome will be dropped out so far off the pace, he will actually be on Windsor racecourse when the pack are at halfway.

But when he'll fly home at the death like Dancing Brave at Epsom or Longchamp on a motorbike.

I know - I was there!

In the press box on the line!

Best view of the race I ever had!

I can still hear one of The Sporting Life staff giving Greville Starkey dog's abuse now!

I think he had "the lot" on! (Hope so, anyway, absolutely awful bloke). šŸ˜‚

But DB won at Longchamp - so you never know - this one could go either way, Maurice! šŸ˜‚
