Forum Functions Forum feature requests and suggestions

Simple if you have the person on “ignore” just ignore if you don’t like what someone has sent you put them on ignore 🫣 I personally find it works for me 😉
I've only ever done that on a football forum but it was so satisfying knowing they can talk as much nonsense as they won't and I won't have to put up with it.

Id always said id never block or ignore anyone but funnily enough this week I read 2 people's posts that were antagonising my personality so I thought f%*& it and put them both on ignore and to my surprise I actually felt better.

I'd always said I'd put the entire universe on ignore, but I've done a volte face in recent months.

Most amusing of all are those who don't really understand how the forum works, claim they've got people on ignore, but manifestly haven't as (other than as a logged off guest) they wouldn't be able to see various threads (created by the supposedly ignored person) they then logon and post on were that the case.

Anyway, I hope I never antagonise Danny's personality - he's one of fewer than ten people in the solar system who gets what I'm all about.

Which is putting smiles on faces, food in tummys, extra winnings in online betting accounts (oh, and tongues in cheeks).

Id be happy if the FAQ explained how to delete direct messages.

Actually think I struggled with this at one point but if you open message and click leave on top right hand corner it gives 2 options both of which will make the message dissappear from your inbox. One does it permanently but one option will have it reappear if the other person decides to DM you on that chat.

I think your safe Ian. In fact when it came to forum improvements I nearly suggested that we just needed some more content from our UFSA and everything would be pukka.

A-ha, splendid. I shall prune my box accordingly.

...
I use “What’s new” primarily to navigate the site. That gives me “Latest posts” which is what I’m looking for and also “Latest profile posts” which seem a bit of a waste of space to me, certainly I never look at them.
Yep - an oversight. I can modify that page to host anything - no one really uses profile posts.

Oh - just one thing. Are you able to pin the forum competition threads?
Done. If there are more, please let me know.

Maybe having more of a presence on social media engaging in a few topics, mind you, there are some wrong uns on there.
I loath Social Media, but for SEO reasons, it's a must. I think some of those accounts might be Colin's - I would need to check. One thing is that Talking Horses hosts gambling information, and that is a nightmare to deal with in the Facebook, X realm. If I use it, it would be primarily for posting Posts of the Week etc.

Bryan I understand that it is a bit of a niche subject but perhaps a topic on Point to Point racing and Hunterchase's a passion of mine may be of interest to some on here ? 🤷‍♂️
There may be a Forum section for this - I would need to check.

The only suggestion I can think of is to split the Forum threads into Flat threads, Jumps threads, Other threads. I don't know if that has been done, I am not sure how to find them if it has?

This has been done - but you can't see it. LOL

This forum is pretty massive - it's a beast. When I first took this project on, I along side a few veteran members here, populated the forum with a number of forum sections that are now hidden, since they are empty. What I need to do is to start populating a number of these sections with threads from elsewhere - it's just time consuming. I am hoping in the next several weeks to do a bunch of this.

It will make this forum appear massive - but the key to all of this is making sure it is easy to navigate.

That's a very fair point, actually.

I appreciate Bryan wants to grow the forum, but I'd be equally happy to take the opposite John Cleese/Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers route and put a big sign saying: "No Riff Raff" on the door here.
I believe something of this sort is in new sign-up's welcome message.

I'd still like General Racing topics link at the top of the page above newest posts. But not too bothered if anyone else isnt.
Should be doable as a widget. I'd have to check.

Ah - that is a tricky one that needs to be explained. When you send a direct message to someone, you are actually creating a conversation. You don't really delete it, but you "leave" it.

Click that and you will be prompted with this:

So when you "leave" a message, it's removed from your inbox. It remains in the other person's inbox until he/she leaves as well. The dialogue box allows you to receive a response in the future if you want.

Thanks folks, keep them coming.

@Ian_Davies LOL - this has been in the private message that new sign-ups receive for quite some time:

..Since you're brand new here, your first three posts are moderated to weed out the riff raff and spammers. After your third post, you're free to post away with out any limits.

Good enough? :p

Now that the forum is getting busier, there are threads acquiring multiple pages even in the space of a day or two.

It would be helpful to have Next and Prev navigation buttons at the top as well as at the bottom of each thread page.

I have asked for extra emojis on the reaction button - so we can have 🤮😭🙄 as well as I invariably would just like to react in said format!

Yes, and there are loads of emojis to choose from:

And you can choose from many as you scroll down:

Extra tip: you can type these in as well, for instance : barf : (without the spaces) equals :barf:

: thumbsup : =

wondering would it be helpful to have a thread called "todays racing" where people can put fancies up but also stuff about others horses that they have views/info on
I would imagine it would be quite a busy thread.

like the "what are you backing today" thread?
Yeah Simmo but some of guys just put there fancies up there if I put the stuff I want to put up I feel I would be clogging up the thread with crap some don't want to read

Take no notice put up whatever you like if people dont like it they can choose to put you on ignore if they are that bothered mate.

The ability to Ignore or Block individual Threads from showing in what's new and channels

If you block the individual you'll block their threads you won't see them.

Or they could put them in blogs where inviduals threads belong.

Don't really want to block individuals as when they venture out into the wider forum can be of interest. Just some threads are totally boring and pointless to me. Just seems the racing thread gets a lot of stuff that would suit personal blogs so agree with that point.
