    Breeder's Cup Meeting

Imagine wrote: In an interview with US reporters prior to the weekend AOB mentioned that Man of Iron had had a number of little colds throughout the season and that all of their other runners had always scoped cleanly.

    Irish Leger

Luke wrote: There was considerable talk after the race that Scorpion's jockey (Heffernan I think) didn't really try hard enough on his mount, because the stable wanted Yeats to win. Don't know whether this doubt was justified but it was there at the time. Perhaps others on here can remember...

    2009 Arc.

I think Oxx will go for the Arc if the ground suits. Pretty sure the Tsui family would like STS to emulate his mum's Arc win, and surely his stamina for 12f on goodish ground is no longer in dispute. He certainly wasn't stopping on Saturday! If he were to win the Arc and come out of the race...

    Irish Leger

Good news about Septimus, Galileo! Surprised, however, that he's not in the Leger and that Yeats isn't going to France. Perhaps they want his last race to be in Ireland - I really hope he runs well.

    Irish Leger

14 furlongs is not far enough for Yeats to assert over a field of this considerable quality. Profound Beauty/Alandi/Schiaparelli are all much better that those down the field to Septimus last year. I guess Septimus just is not yet (maybe never again?) ready to race. Otherwise I don't think...

    Rip Van Winkle

Sorry, folks, to have duplicated some of the above. When I wrote the last post, I was somehow blind to the last page of this thread. Oh, dear, a senior moment!?!? :o:o

    Rip Van Winkle

In the Guardian article AOB calls Rip not the best but the "most brilliant horse we've had". I don't think you could claim to find eight "more brilliant" ones - but maybe a few. Let's hope that Rip's career will last long enough to find out that bit more. I wonder if running him in the...

Sea The Stars - Retirement Announced

Galileo wrote: How close does this take him to a 20-day ban under the totting up procedure? There's been a lot of criticism of the procedure on C4 recently with claims of punishing the jockey twice over. What does everyone think? Or should this go on another thread?

    Arse Cup

Did anyone else have the misfortune to watch The Morning Line on Saturday and hear the howler that went uncorrected for the rest of the programme? Francombe said something like how stupid it was that Sea The Stars was spelled SEA and not SEE. Jim McGrath hooted and said it was obvious - Sea...

    Overdose

Thanks for that, Crazyhorse. It's all a bit of a muddle it seems - connections are keeping it pretty mysterious. I wonder why Tote Ten To Follow have made him a "non-runner".:confused::confused:

    Overdose

Does anyone have any news of Overdose - his progress following injury, his next race/races? I thought he was being aimed at the Abbaye, but he comes up in grey in my Ten To Follow list, which indicates a non-runner for the duration of the competition I think. This would indicate that he is not...

    Coral Eclipse Stakes

I don't think Secretariat could handle a muddy track. Anyone verify? I really hope the Tsuis avoid both Coolmore and Sheik Mohammed. Might STS stand at the Irish National Stud? Agree that Coolmore have something to be nervous about - I think STS's pedigree is more intriguing than Galileo's...

    King George 2009

Re Rip Van Winkle: as an alternative to the Secretariat, they could go for the more valuable Arlington Million against older horses. RVW would have a better chance in either of these than he would in the KG or in facing STS again.

    King George 2009

Sadly this seems to be true. Unless, of course, against expectations, Sea the Stars were to turn up after all. Fame and Glory I think could probably have accounted for this field - too bad he won't be there - would certainly have made it more interesting. Ballydoyle surely won't run Rip Van...

    Coral Eclipse Stakes

I think we need to see Rip Van Winkle in a 10f race without the mighty STS to know whether or not we can trust him to give his best. Not much chance of that happening in Britain or Ireland this summer it would appear. I think AOB should send him to the US to have a chance for his day in the...

    Ballydoyle 2 Year Olds 2009

Hope not. But, since Steinbeck wasn't entered in the Coventry supposedly to wait for the Railway, it looks like something's gone amiss. He looked to have been their best horse in the race, unless the first timer Viscount Nelson is special. Wonder what the story is.

The Derby & Irish Derby 2009

Galileo wrote: More problems with his feet???? What problems, Gal? I haven't heard anything about this. Doesn't sound good, especially added to all the other ifs and buts. Surely they wouldn't take a chance with the horse - if any doubt, save him for the Eclipse.
