    RUK/McCoy

If nothing else, he has made it very clear that he should leave the wordsmithery to others, including Lydia. I did a quick Google of "swearing on a person's life" and came up with several answers which suggested that this quaint phrase signifies an attempt to settle an argument through moral...

    RUK/McCoy

Geoff Lester (mis)used his position as HWPA President at The Derby Awards in 2005 to make a gratuitous criticism of Lydia Hislop's enquiring style, before pathetically trying to pretend he was just making a joke. Geoff Lester, Lydia Hislop: the choice is yours.

    American Racing Form

The past form aspect of the free Timeform service will have a few tweaks to improve it in due course (these things take time). The comments themselves attempt to cut through the welter of stats and do some of the spadework on distance, surface, run style, consistency etc. It's not to everyone's...

No it was not good on my allowance (or on Timeform's). It was 116 on my allowance, which is Good to Soft. Completely and utterly disagree. See above. Red Jazz finished notably slowly - about 1.5 sec slower for the last 2f than Frankel - that is a fact. That implies that the race was not run in...

    The Dewhurst

Frankel ran it in 101.2% and Cape Dollar in 99.7%. I have Red Jazz 19 slow. Timeform has Red Jazz 22 slow. Red Jazz's time is 0.31 sec slower than Frankel's. That is about 5 lb slower. They both carried the same weight. If weight-for-age is taken into account then Red Jazz's time is something...

    The Dewhurst

The runners were plodding at the end of the Challenge Stakes - winner posted a final 2f speed of ~ 95.7% of its overall speed - so it is no surprise the time for that race was poor. Not quite sure why it was SO poor and why they were plodding SO much, but there you go.

    I believe he won't be.

The BHA has now rated Dream Ahead 126, btw.

(or even 11.9 lb per second if you take Waiters Dream)

    The Dewhurst

From what he has said, the BHA Handicapper is using approximately 12.1 lb per second. ((124-113)*5.5)/5 Discuss.

EC, you quite clearly should NOT just be looking for isolated similar circumstances against which to compare another time, one on one. How about establishing optimum sectionals at the course and trip from a large enough sample of suitable races run in a "good" time, in order to establish "how...

    The Dewhurst

For the sake of balance, I feel I should point out that not all time-raters would agree with this. Timeform, for instance, have Dream Ahead with a tfig of 120 and Frankel with one of 115 (at Doncaster), though apparently someone associated with them reckons the latter's sectionals show him to...

    Forum horse connections

One Way Or Another goes in the 2:35 at Goodwood tomorrow. He is off a 3-month break, but has (as usual) been going well at home and seems to go well fresh. He is off the same mark as when winning last year and has John Fahy back on for the first time since a probably unlucky loser at this trip...

    Champion Stakes

I, too, like this idea. It was never going to happen quickly, but perhaps it is something that the respective authorities could work towards over the next few years, with RFC's recent actions arguably making it more rather than less likely. The Ryder Cup has shown that sports fans can stomach...

I would think there is a good chance that AOB's Seville is a decent horse. Shaped very well indeed on his debut (race won in good time) and tonked three rivals at the weekend.

    2010 Two year olds

Agreed. If you judged him on the last 200 yds on his debut at Gowran - when he was finally getting the hang of thiings - he looked a very good prospect indeed. Bred to be Group class at 1¼m/1½m.

    Frankel!

Thanks. The question re Timeform is one that someone who works at Timeform should answer (I just freelance for them and give advice on general handicapping methodology). However, I would say that it has always been a mistaken belief in some parts that you either have to have all sectionals...
