A Day (Or Evening) At The Races

I did my absolute bollocks on St James Finest when I saw 20s, following a wildly lesser bet on Neo King. Hope you had a good day. Figured you might be there for at least one of the days.

Newbury 7th next?

I did have a good day, thanks.

I also bet Neo King (got 22/1) but lost on Enjoy D'Allen the same race.

It's a cracking three-day meeting, the £40 pass is exceptional value for money and it actually cost me nothing as I used R4R points.

I won't be at Newbury as I rarely go racing nowadays, could be months before I go again, and I only went to two days of this because my best friend was down from Sheffield for it.

The 7th Feb is destined to be renamed Conti Day - half of Vatican City got on at 33s (after a nod from you know who) before the Windsor race in heady anticipation of a worthwhile run there.

And run run Conti did. Held up and given a gentle race in the hood/tt to make sure he didn't pull like a train again. Not put into it and looked after by HS until he was sure enough that the headgear was working, then let go over the last two or three to finish a fresh-looking 3rd.

Newbury - it's not beyond reason to anticipate a different (and supremely confident) ride now they know their tool is working.

Obvious parallels can be drawn with L'Eau Du Sud a couple of years ago, though Sud went off a stunningly mad mid-30s in that race. Came to win it tanking, only to be scuppered by the Lord.

What price the Betfair/County/Scottish Champion treble! Followed by the 2027 Arkle.

I'll be the bloke pogoing like it's 1975 at the finishing post when Conti skates in by upwards of five lengths. Praying for plenty of rain, though.

Around 4000 residents of the City emailed me today with stuff along the lines of 'that was a shit tip, Popey, the rumours are that Conti goes straight to the County'. Some even appended it with 'you bastard, what are the bookies paying you?'

I told them that it's unwise to fully believe anything that comes out of the Skelton yard. But there could, ofc, be some truth in the rumour. Equally, it could all be obfuscation of the highest order, and designed to mislead whoever it is that needs to be misled. Time will tell.
